It depends on the state. They sell it off the shelf here but in some states you have to have a permit to get it.

Found it at my local walgreens a couple weeks back. Had to do two transactions to get two bottles but they were cool about it.

Everclear (95% ethanol) over here for the past month. Will report on results, but no problems using it for agar and transfers yet.
Seemed like a good purchase at the time because if it all fails I'll have something to deal with the bad night I'll be having. $40 for 1.75L
I remember some lab supply selling 5gal containers of 90% for $50 back in February and boy do I regret not getting one.

Auto parts store. Heet in the red bottle. Certainly not cost effective but it's full strength.

I'm not a veteran but it seems like: Wiping instruments and containers before putting them in SAB Sanitizing hands/gloves before handling sterilized equipment Anything that you want to clean without having residue on after (alcohol evaporates fairly quickly without having to be wiped)
I wouldn't trust handling my jars or dishes pre-colonization without alcohol sanitized hands/gloves.

Walmart.com has 2x32oz 70% iso for $4 plus shipping (free for $35+ orders). It's the best online source I've found and has been consistently in stock for most of the past two months.

I found a good price for a gallon off an online nail supplier during the height of the first covid wave. I've been using vinegar and soap and water, Clorox wipes for jars and such. I've only used just over half of the jug in about 3 months, I just make intelligent use of it and don't douse everything in it. I also managed to get a case of ISO wipes off of ebay for a good price and I have been using those for my hands when I am working with my SAB.

Agree to most, but unless your jars or dishes have imperfect seals (lids) I dont see the problem. It's the inside of them I want clean. Thats done through the PC process. I treat one use gloves as sterile if you dont actually touch anything with them before you go into the SAB, I know they aren't or wont always be, but I'm simply not seeing contaminations because of this.

Got a 5 gal drum of 99% reagent grade ISO for about $180 from a science supply store in March that I dilute. About double what the small bottles in the grocery store cost but the time saved searching has been worth it, reckon one should last at least six months. Also I've been seeing what I presume to be 70% iso or ethyl sold as "liquid hand sanitizer", also costlier than normal but it's probably effective.

Gloves are another thing. I reuse mine until they tear and then only replace that one. They last a long time if you're careful.

NO! Iso-Heet has petroleum solvent in it as "fuel injector cleaner." I got some last week thinking I was clever and it's gross stuff. Turns milky upon dilution and stinks even worse than straight iso. The SDS doesn't even say what the petroleum component is. Rest of the bottle went in the car's tank just to be rid of it.
Before someone asks about Heet in the yellow bottle, it's methanol and not good for sanitizing.
