Are my caps opening early?
    #26857148 - 08/01/20 11:47 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

This is my second monotub, is this down to genetics? It also happened on the first and I Think it’s going to happen again on my second as I can see one cap already open, I’m pretty sure I have great conditions so I can’t rule out why this is happening.

I feel like this is one of those things that you get the roundhouse of answers for. “Genetics, more fae, sub too dry, etc etc”

I don’t know the answer personally, but I think as the previous poster mentioned, maybe some more details will help the next onlooker. Variety, growing chamber, spawn/sub ingredients.

Anyways, they look good to me, but I understand the frustration, best of luck dude

They'll really stretch as the caps begin to open, ofc, but AFAIK, small fruits can happen from a substrate that's too wet. This has happened to me when tweaking my water content, and I read the same thing being reported here. If they do end up too small and you're pretty sure it's not genetics, maybe try going a little lighter on the water:substrate ratio next time.

good advice there.

Also nothing wrong with trying some strains and even different spore suppliers when you start getting wacky mutations or undesirable fruits.

You gotta always check every single tub for field capacity.

You. Have. To. Squeeze. it.

See if it streams out. You want just a bit of water to seep on a a hard squeeze. Add dry fine verm and mix to adjust water if too wet.

This is from multispore Mystery syringe from cylocybe, my conditions are fine, I’m almost certain it’s genetics, here’s my tub today, all caps opened pretty much and the fruits are no bigger than 2.5 inches
