Looking at mycellium through pasty plates

So I know this may sound a little silly but whats the best way to view growing mycellium (or contams) through pasty plates? I'd rather not open them (if I did it would of course be in the SAB) but i'm having a hard time getting a good look at whats going on in there. Suggestions?

Yeah I suppose that would be a good start, I was using light from my room at different angles but wasn't really giving me a good viewing. What about opening in SAB? Or is that just begging for contams?

Opening them in the sab is fine if you practice good sterile technique. Mini rounds are great for beginners but the main drawback is they are hard to look through.
You might consider trying some petri dishes. I primarily use regular petris now. They are poured in the sab and I think they are easier to work with, but I hate that they are single use. My mini rounds still get used frequently because they are perfect for blenderless LI.

Thanks for the reply man yeah I'm considering starting using petris for that fact alone that I want better vision. I already bought my 500ml glass flasks to hold bulk agar in for later. I guess once I get a few pasty plates down I will try em out.
I was thinking about buying 500 PP5 clear plastic containers since they are a bit cheaper than petris. They look like mini salad bowls but have much more viewing than pasty plates. Only thing I see wrong with them is they are bulky-er than stacking a bunch of small petris. And yeah eventually once I get some clean Myc i'm going to go the blenderless route you read my mind lol.

Have you checked out the Holy Grail PP5 containers? They have pretty good visibility and can be no-poured and reused, I love em!

I just use half pint wide mouth jars with the 1 piece lid. A little bulky but pretty good visibility

I just looked up the Holy Grail PP5 containers and those look fantastic! I might have to try those out for sure. I bought 24 minirounds so I'll probably use those for at least awhile but I think thats the next step as far as no-petri's go. Thanks for the recommendation! And I might also try a few of the half pint jars I have just to see how they work. I have quite a few of those as well.

Heres a pic of an overgrown plate I transferred away from like a week ago just for an example of the visibility
