It's not overpriced but it's garbage.

I had to get the 8qt. Came out to $40, no shipping, and I already have it. The 3qts of grain spawn I'll have from 6 Pints should be plenty. Plus I can start agar + mini BRF cakes now while I wait on the grain to get here.Quote:

Overpriced considering that's where it's going haha, but I do think they do the best job they could to prep the bags. Just too many factors outside of the bag that find their way in.
I broke up the myc on the nasty looking bag per advice of the bagmaker and will update in a few.

I think the biggest problem is they have to ship 300 bags a day and that's where quality goes downhill.

Update on Bag 2: I broke up the myc a few times, a little starting to be seen through the large spot of uncolonized grains. Ready to mix the whole bag or wait a few? Day 19:

And here's Bag 1, which I held onto but moved to a different spot and looks like it's winning against the red mold?

Should I still toss it?

Both of them? I see the moisture in the first bag ("bag 2") but it doesn't look like anything weird is growing there. It was clean white before I started breaking it up.
The other bag - it used to look worse, any chance it recovers?

Bad only gets worse as far as contamination goes.

Like we've said buying premade bags is throwing money out the window. Use the search box to see how healthy colonization looks. Only thing you can do is bury the white chunks in the ground and might get fruits.

Mane its the same bags, I'm not out there buying bags every day. I have agar plates going and BRF cakes as well.
I also have these bags. Might as well make an attempt rather than throw them away just because they're bags.

if you can mess with agar you can make your own bags or jars. Watch my main man RR Lets grow mushrooms grain prep video it'll change yer life.
Edit: On the strength, I admire your courage for making an attempt tho.

I'll get the grain jars going once the agar starts to colonize.
While you're here, and since this has been racking my brain - I made the BRF cakes too early, without any inoculation holes. The idea was to just drop some wedges in, but I got antsy and made the BRF cakes before the agar is colonized - should I wait those out (still in the PC) or just open up the tops in a SAB and squirt some spores from an MS syringe? There is no verm layer.
TBH I don't have any other use for the syringe ~5ccs left
edit: and if I didn't buy the bags to start, I wouldn't have started anything else. I would've been searching for a plug instead

No inoculation holes is ok but it’ll need gas exchange still.

Got that covered with SFD glued on the lids with RTV silicone. Worried about squirting the MS on top of the BRF or sticking the needle inside. I'd flame in between.

It should be ok. If you’re able to open it to add an agar wedge then squirting some syringe solution instead should be fine.

Yeah I went for it. I was more thinking about dripping on top of the cake vs putting the needle in the cake, I did the first half just dripping and the second half with the needle sticking in, all went well. Not expecting much from these, it was from a leftover MS syringe that I probably didn't store too well.
Mixed the grain up in the bags with the coir and seeing some myc regenerate already on both. Still have them separated.
