HELP! Explanation of Anaerobic Respiration of Psilocybe or Agaricales?
    #26819915 - 07/12/20 05:36 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hello friends, this is my first post and I post it in desperation. I am writing a paper on Psilocybe for school (college: Auburn University). The paper is supposed to be a brief comprehensive report on the biology, taxonomy, and cultivation of a chosen horticultural or fungal crop mine is Psilocybe. I have taken plant pathology and I know how to cultivate but I found that as I got to where I needed to start explaining the nutrition/energy processes or cycles of Psilocybe, I realized that the only thing I knew about fungal respiration of basidimycota was that it was most likely anaerobic such as glycolysis. Can anyone confirm this and explain it to me? Specifically, what happens after the exoenzyme degrades the carbohydrate and the hyphae absorbs it? What is the actual name of the exoenzyme? Are there different exoenzymes for different fungi? Am I over thinking this and it’s simply glycolysis? I have more questions but I’ve already asked so many that nobody is going to want to take the time to type the explanation... please help.

Basidiomycetes are aerobic

Bod,

Thank you so much for your reply!  Do you know of any good scholarly articles that I could use for further research and as a citation?

In case anyone has the same issue as me and finds this thread, here's the titles to the best scholarly articles I could find that touch on this topic. It turns out, Basidiomycetes create energy much like humans do. Very very interesting. Thank you Bod for your replies and efforts!!
