Actual confession; after 1.5 years of growing, trich has finally stricken me, and i'm not positive of the cause. I believe it was shitty spawn+overly wet sub, and i think i removed all offenders in time to not fuck up future tubs, but MAN am i worried. Had 15 tubs going, it took out 6 before the first flush, and another 4 after the first flush.
Welcome to the Confessions Thread. =)
There is actually a fair bit of useful information in here... you have to "suffer" through a lot of entertaining confessions to find it, but its worth the journey.
by the way... Trich is more of an issue in the warmer months. Try to keep your grow area from getting too warm. Your intuitions are on point also. Also although you seem to know this already, resist the temptation to manage "salvage tubs" in your normal grow area. If you can, place them outside and you may find that you are able to get a fair few fruits out of trich tubs before they are completely fucked. Last bit of advice, if the trich is very localized you can cut it out - leaving a wide margin (2 inches or more) and may save most of the tub (but grown out of your normal grow area).
Stay tuned for page 1000 gratitude ...

I confess, I keep telling myself that I'll find the magic genetics and stop growing 20 different varieties/clones. It would be simpler and way faster. Being saying this for a couple years now, and just made 20 new plates, all different. Now its got me thinking if its an addiction or have I just not found the gold at the end of the rainbow? I still don't have a clone that I would say is better than MS.

I confess... I despise anything in this hobby that has to do with prep and the PC. Hydrating grain.. fuck that. Boiling and mixing my agar.. fuck me. Anything that has to do with PC'ing something... not for me.
I can sit in front of my hood or in a SAB for hours and be happy as a clam. Or spawn tons of tubs and shoeboxes with not a care in the world. If I could get over my dislike with doing any prep work, I'd probably get 2-3 times more cult work done.

Thanks man! I did try the beer can+iso surgery, and took them out of my main growing area, but i didn't cut out enough and the trich came back. All in all, i'm not mad for two reasons; the tubs still did pretty alright for having trich, and these were the first tubs i lost to contams (lost plenty of jars though). Pretty good run if you ask me!
Another confession; i immediately hate WBS. tried it for the first time this week, this shit better take off like a rocket because it's such a pain in the ass to rinse, and requiring mesh strainers is fuckin irritating. It makes such a mess!

Idk if this can be considered a confession but I just got wheat for the first time, 50lbs for $12.50 from the feed store. I got a few more buckets with lids to store it in and when I dumped the shit out I see quite a few little blackish bugs. Duckduckgo tells me it's something called grain weevils. I'm not happy about it but at the same time it was pretty cheap. I threw the 5 gallon buckets of weevil wheat into the deep freezer. Hopefully a few weeks will either kill them or prevent them from getting their fuck on and making mo' baby weevils.
Not a good start.

My very first time growing I bought wbs and a 5gal bucket, and carried the seed in the bucket. Got home and thought there was a hole in the bag cuz the bucket had seeds all over the bottom.
Then I realized they were moving. Tons of grain weevils. Never seen them before they’re kinda cool looking. I threw it out but later saw people regularly have them in spawn jars with no problems. Just pc them to death.
Pretty sure I saw pics of jars with huge beetles and one with a frog somehow in there also.

Those clones are like 1 in 1000 but they can be found. Keep looking, you’ll know when you strike gold.

I confess that my tiny LC jar got over colonized I couldn't suck it up so I had to "resporate" several times before I could fill the stringe and now I just wanna crawl in a hole and die.
I pretty much assume it will be months before a single shroom now
I wish the multiple years working on crystal clear dishes mattered. Even with online supervision ever being able to reach proper moisture content on any grain
So I'm stuck with unsatisfactory brf jars with my agar. Sorry for bitching I just nowhere else to vent

This is the perfect place to vent. Why is one LC jar being messed up fuckin up your whole production chain bro?
I'm struggling with grain moisture content as well, I got a thread up where I'm trying to diagnose why my spawn colonisation is so slow and its more or less cause my grains are either too dry or two wet. We're gonna make it bro, just maybe start taking actual notes every time you do grain prep on the time things spend simmering/boiling/soaking/drying. I'm going to start doing the same.

just mix every 50lb bag with about 2 cups of diatomaceous earth. No bugs, ever.

I was having trouble finding coir (Should have some arriving Wednesday) and to keep my brf cakes going, I shredded the half-pints and mixed them into fresh BRF mix into wide-mouth pint jars, everything went well except one jar just died. Flat out, D-E-D, dead, died. I spent all week fretting and trying to figure out what I'd done wrong and how I'd contaminated ONE jar and only one. finally, this morning I accepted the inevitable and took the jar out to the compost tub to dump. Now, I place a piece of Viva paper towel between my jar rings and the lids because I cannot keep gnats out otherwise (hooray for living in the south eastern US in summer), when I removed the ring and papertowel, I discovered that I had forgotten to punch holes into the lid for GE.

Woops! I confess that in early days I had some jars that just stalled forever... until I figured out there was no gas exchange and with a slightly loosened lid they took off!

Well Here We Go Folks... this thread has hit a 1000 pages! That is much farther than I thought it would get and I'm really pleased with how it has worked out. The confessions are often funny, they often give us a sense of humility and camaraderie as we stumble along with our unique passion and attendant curious behaviors and foibles. Although it is just kind of fun to read we can also pick up a few tips about how to avoid the mistakes that folks confess here.
Props to all who post their confessions in here and especially to the regulars who have formed a little community ... I sincerely appreciate it.
So it has been a good long while since I've sent a thank you out. Lets have a theme for confessions this next few days (August 1 - August 4).
Please post your confession of your most disastrous tub
Maybe it didn't pin or it only produced a single fruit. Maybe it was all side pins, maybe it was a contaminated wasteland. Give us your sucky tubs!
The winner of the most disastrous tub will receive this lil puppy as a thank you for your confession:

The fruit that produced this giant Texas Orange Cap fruit was the only fruit that came up in a completely slimy bacterial tub (Don't worry the print is clean... I"m pretty sure!).
