How to salvage dry tub
    #26852680 - 07/29/20 09:31 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hello shroomers, longtime lurker here. I'm wondering if anybody has experience or tips with getting the most out of mycelium that's been dried out and maybe fruited too early.

It's my first bulk grow. I've followed Bod's teks for the most part: oats and coco coir in an unmodified tub. It's MS and I spawned 10 days ago.

I know I fucked up a few things. I think the sub was a bit under capacity and I left the lid upside down from the get go, plus I misted and fanned, so there was FAE from the beginning and it seems to have dried out. After about a week, I noticed the mycelium was turning yellow and bruising blue. There's also a fair number of side pins.

I know what I'll improve for my next grow -- field capacity, lid down until 100% colonization, and I may add a small coco casing layer to help keep the surface humid -- but I'm wondering if others in similar situations have figured out how to make the best of it.

I've been misting a couple times a day and leaving the lid on right side down during the night. It seems most people discourage dunking until after the first flush. I've also just had ambient window lighting so far but I will try to get a lamp in the next few days.

My other worry - and this may be unfounded - is that it started fruiting before full colonization because of the early FAE and surface evaporation. But I think at this point I just need to do fruiting conditions, right?

Any insight would be appreciated! If there already exist threads covering this, please let me know.

Ha, good point. I guess I was being overly worried. Thanks both!

I recently had a similar issue with an unmodified tub drying out.  I shit the bed early on and introduced far too much FAE.
An increased misting schedule (as needed), and keeping a close eye on the surface conditions helped to grow a successful tub.  My tub ended up growing many side pins for the first flush, but I was able to harvest them and finished with a decent yield.

Stay the course.  You got this dude!

Keep up with the mist but no pooling water.  Try playing some light jazz also it might help.  I've read plants are into classical music anyway.

Pooling water is as bad as you think.... as long as it disappears
