I decided to stop being hard-headed and do things exactly like the teks. Not surprisingly, my results improved.
I ran two tubs using a CVG substrate and 6 quarts of spawn per tub. They colonized quickly and cleanly. After day 12, I began to see pins in both tubs. After a couple more days, it became clear that one tub pinning more than its sister.

Today is about the 4th day since I noticed the pins.
One of the tubs is doing great. Tons of young mushrooms that are strong and doing great. The one that had less pins to start with is looking anemic. The stems on the baby mushrooms are bruising. I’m worried this tub is gonna have a lot of aborts.
I tried to give the tubs equal treatment. I alternated which one of them sat in front of the air-conditioning to get more FAE and they took turns sitting by the window for light. I misted both of them as needed, but I was in a hurry yesterday and I took the spray nozzle off of the bottle and sprinkled a little water over the sub instead instead of misted ny second tub. That was the one that wasn’t doing as well. Today, I noticed the stems were bruised.
Do y’all have any insights on what I can do to make my tubs preform more uniformly? What could have caused the anemic, bruised monotub to underperform?

are they both multispore? are they both from different plates or different strains? i had two shoeboxes of rustywhyte recently & one produced way heavier than the other. they were both from the same initial spore plate, i just took two separate initial transfers. i think that just comes down to the dice roll of genetics. your second tub may have just dried out more or something. you don’t really need to force FAE to happen by putting it near fans & all that shit, the lid being cracked is usually more than enough

Yea, they’re multispore. I got the 6 jars from two different grain to grain transfers.

I think you’ve got mold in that second tub. I see so much bruising and green tinge and a few curled over Trich mushrooms. It might not be trich but when mushrooms are assailed by mold they usually look like that.
Can you see anything funky on the sides and bottom of the tub?
