Are they cracker dry, and are you sure that’s not some type of nylon/synthetic material that didn’t get mixed in?
If that’s some type of organic material that grew on/around the shrooms while in storage, I’d say there’s no way they’re still edible. But If its a synthetic material that got mixed in with the storage, then maybe?
I’d err on the side of caution and say toss em, but feel free to wait for someone more experienced to chime in

I wouldn`t eat. Making tea would be the way to go. In the end it`s up to you, if you like to think about on a trip. Better safe than sorry always, that also isn`t that much.

Yeah that's gonna be a hard no! Whether that stuff is organic or not, those can't be cracker dry any more, and therefore have lost all potency. Then not to mention if it is organic, it'll probably give you a bad stomach ache at the least. Junk

Lol same thing I thought.
It’s either polyfill or mold. Depends on the answer to that.

They’re definitely cracker dry, and we’re kept in a dark cool place with very little of any airflow.

It all comes down to the string. Is it just string or is it alive?

Thinking logically if the mushrooms are and has always been CRACKER DRY then the absence of water within the mushrooms would make it hard for anything to infest it as all life on earth needs water to thrive.
If the strings are going through the mushrooms and originate from within then i wouldn't touch them, if going by what i said this would mean that the mushrooms cannot be cracker dry because life has a hard time thriving without water/liquid.
If with certainty that the strings do not go through any of the mushrooms then its most likely something you yourself put in and forgot about and which would mean their totally safe to eat, or preferably make tea of.
Handling the white stringy stuff, do you think that it is a living organism or poly? By the looks of it, does not seem to be organic material. I am however not the one handling the item.
Give it further inspection, you yourself should be able to decide if its edible or not.
