2nd best BBQ state in the USA?
    #26851417 - 07/29/20 09:09 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Let's assume that everybody thinks their home state has the best BBQ in the whole wide world. Then what would be the 2nd best?

Please say:

1. which state you are from as a point of reference?
2. which state you think has the best BBQ after your home state? AND
3. why you are voting for that 2nd best state? Taste/dishes/style/etc

Feel free to add your favorite dishes and even recipes. Why not?

Why do we have to assume our own state has the best bbq?  Why can't we just say what state we think is best?

Why are you making this so hard on everyone? :crankey:

Because it will otherwise be a contest on who has the biggest cock all over again. So by taking the home state out of the equation, people will (hopefully) be more objective in their judgement.

But I don't think my home state has the best BBQ.

1. From Texas
2. I've always preferred the BBQ style of the Carolina's.  Vinegar, and mustard based sauces.
3. Because I like it.

Thread kinda sucks...might not post again.

Can't say I've sampled any state's legit BBQ, haven't really been to the US much and it's not something I ate while I was there. Looking forward to any recipes though.

I can't say that I have either, tbh.
I guess I'm more judging by the style of sauces.  Kansas City sauces are good, too...sweet & tangy.

I've been in the country a little bit this summer with the mountains and lakes and what not and on a nice day you can smell everyones smokers going.

In the backwoods areas, its way more delicate and blanced apple wood aromas

When u smell it in a nice neighborhood its usually kinda acrid like wet oak, ppl dont know what theyre doing, maybe using pellets...

def an art to mixing smokes

Ikea flat pack wood chips have a nice tang to them that complements the natural juices of a pig.

I'm backing Texas, and its not my state.

Didnt even know this subject was under debate

I think Texas is globally considered to be the BBQ state

Texas is mostly known for its brisket, and a sweet/spicy sauce.  However, a lot of purists down here don't even serve sauce, and get offended if you ask for it.  I get what they're trying to do, but being pretentious about it is lame.  That being said....Tx has very good bbq.

Oregon does not have the best BBQ. I would argue that Texas or Louisiana has the best BBQ.
