Pasteurizing bulk substrate for 60 monotubs

Whats the best way to pasteurize bulk sub (manure, coir, coffee, gypsum) for 60 monotubs? I have a large autoclave and it is tempting to just bag the wet sub and put it in there..

60 monos with coffee lol you may wanna go clear a space in the backyard for a giant compost pile cuz i can promise you there is a very very very goid chance thats where its gnna end up if u have coffee in it. that shit is the best way to ensure a contamination if u ask me. if its not too late id skip that shit

The autoclave will sterilize not pasteurize. I think the easiest way is to skip the manure all together and just just coir.

you need to do some more basic research to pull that off
Straight coir or coir + verm will scale best, since you can simply bucket tek (or unbucket tek). Manure requires proper pasteurization. Drop the coffee too. You can also skip the gypsum
Look into eats unbucket tek and bods bucket tek. Both work great. You could build a giant barrell pasteurizer to cook the coir (proper pasteurization) or a big insulated vessel and bucket tek it. Or if you are more risk tolerant just mix coir and water and use (unbucket)
Autoclave is useless here. Also, 60 tubs worth of sub is not gonna fit in your autoclave anyway. At 1:3 ratio, youd be lookin at less than 15 tubs worth per 50 gal barrel

Oven pasteurize it.. bring it to 160 degrees F and set a timer for two hours. I use bucket tek when “pasteurizing” coir/verm/gypsum but when I add poop to the mix I oven pasteurize. GL

Mix coir and verm in buckets and bring to field capacity. Its also a good idea to space out the spawning of tubs. Getting them dry tends to be a bottle neck. How many tubs worth can you dry at once? That's how many you should be spawning every couple days.

55 gallon barrel, water heater element in the bottom, PID temperature control circuit, bricks, bbq rack, bobs your uncle...
but there is easier ways if you just use coir/verm instead of manure.

Bucket tek it and don't use coffee.or take let's say a 70-80qt bin put mutiply bricks of coir and verm and do one huge bucket tek. I'd also probly insulate it in three tubs and wrap wit a blanket hold the heat longer

I had bad luck with bucket tek..
coir gypsum and verm always contaminated.. pastuerized runs rarely contaminate. Maybe it's my environment; it would be stupid to waste 60 monotubs on a unpastuerized bucket tek without testing the bucket tek in your environment first.
get large coolers a heating element and a water circulation pump pump.. heating element and water pump on floor of cooler, fill with water, place a rack in there, place substate bags on tops.. use digital thermometer to controll the heater element.. you may need about 3 coolers or three different runs.
search the forum for bulk pastuerization setups, use some of the keywords i stated above to find a perfect tek, there was a thread in 2012 with a perfect tek for monotubs. i do the same or more.

The only reason I would use manure instead of coir here is cost, but 100 bucks shouldn’t be an issue for this project.
It’d be nice to just pipe steam into a cement truck and keep it spinning for a few days lol.

The best idea I have seen other than using a massive autoclave on a short cycle is MycoWilly's steam units. I know a lot of people dont like him much here, but that one is a good idea. Basically heavy duty HDX monotubs with a pressure cooker attached to a steam hose.

Why would you use an autoclave to pasteurize though?

I have a setup like that. Mine is modified to have duel steam injections, wireless blutooth thermometer, and ratchet straps to lock everything down. Works great as long as you don't overload it.

Using the autoclave on a short cycle is fast and convenient if you have a bigger unit 100l+. You are not using it to sterilize.
Spirit-crusher, do you have a photo. Wold love to see it

Bucket tek works for a lot of tubs. If bucket teking some coir and verm is too much... maybe you should read some more...

The manure I use is dry processed pellets, never had a contamination problem
I think my best option is to pasteurize in a barrel..
No way I will risk 360 quarts of spawn on no pasteurization tek

Try using this guy :
http://www.bubbasbarrels.com/ms/150-gallon-mushroom-substrate-steamer
He has a video on how to build it too. I watched it, doesn't seem to hard. The website description also tells you that you can just straight up buy the cord online instead of assembling it.

I'm going with this method
All you have to do is scale it up to a 55 gallon drum
And like others said ditch the coffee unless you want to grow plenty of green mold.

Newbie question: If you sterilize substrate in a pressure cooker and hit the required pressure (15PSI) and leave it long enough 2-3 hours. How is contamination an issue? Is it because the substrate allows for preferential growth of undesired mold vs desired fungi?
I would have thought sterilizing kills everything or am I missing something.
