Could I have put too much spores an water in my grain bag??
    #26850035 - 07/28/20 02:24 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

This is the second time inoculating grain bags the first time went well I put 2 to 3 cc of the syringe in the bags. This time I figured I just use the rest of the syringe and put about 7 cc of spores in the grain bag and it’s been three weeks and nothing has happened. No growth not even humidity and moisture in the bag. Could I have put too much water and spores in the bag and it screwed something up or delayed it?  the other thing I noticed is on the bags the Air filter was still compressed from shipping and it wasn’t letting no Air exchange  in and out of the bag. Could that have something to do with it. Thanks

Also the spores were less than 2 months old and kept in the fridge. They should have been fine right?

honestly if u ask me any amount of spores and solution direct to grain is too much. you really should be using agar to obtain a clean culture before going to grains. all spores are dirty to some extent and while going direct to grain can work and even i have done it on more than 1 occasion. its just more risky is all and i dont like the idea of gambling with my grow. now i have posted this pic many times but it will show you why you really should consider going to agar first. this syringe came from what is if u ask me the very best vendor there is.

also if u do choose to go to grain and decide you want to make sure you have a clean culture for another use. you can always pluck a single grain and put that to agar and clean it up if needed👍😃

:whathesaid:

I recently had a similar issue and couldn’t get any spores I ordered to do anything at all when put directly to grains. That or everything would go bacterial.
So I decided to get into agar because it’s super easy with pasty plates and 123 agar tek. I discovered that every syringe I got, had bacteria in it because every plate that I inoculated had bacteria in it. I have since then been working on cleaning these spores up and haven’t put ms syringe to grain in months so far.

Gotta learn agar! 👍😅 if you can do BRF TEK you can do agar.

7cc isn't too much liquid (too much spores, maybe) Not sure how big the bags are but I shoot 60cc of LC into 6-7lb spawn bags. of course any spores to grain is a possible contam like jcm was saying.

You mentioned the bag is compressed. If there is no air inside there may never be any growth because it's choked out. You can hang the bag from the top with clamps or something on your closet rod or shower rod or something, careful not to rip or tear the bag, to inflate it.

I suspect too many spores which increases the chances of contamination and competition between them. I also started out with MS and quickly learned the hard way.  If your bags havent colonized at all within 10-14 days, unfortunately they are toast. TBH, your wasting your time if you wait another 2 weeks.

Well I came home from work and got a surprise after 25 days I noticed humidity in one of the bags at the top and I looked at the bottom and we got life!  I did read somewhere if you put too much water in it stalls the growth. Never give up!!  Lol

My first tub is gt and it’s the one with the case layer of coco coir. Is that little white spots my psyllium making its way up?

My second tub is PE. It was a week Behind in the bags and it’s about a week behind in the tubs but I think it’s ready. What do ya think?  Smells like a fruity/musky air freshener. 👌. I heard PE Definitely likes a top casing???

PE is looking good. Strangely enough my new PEs are incredibly vigorous as well. Spawned to bulk only 3 days ago and already starting to signs of healthy myc.

The top picture with the white spots looks suspect to me. Could be trich i am afraid. A close up of those spots would be helpful. Do they look like little stars or snowflakes or more like cottage cheese?
