That's how I feel about the vast majority of this whole pandemic; from the origin to the toilet paper to the politics to the whinging about freedums.
Seems the vast majority focus on these things, and discount the human element?

Right. Just seems like blameshifting to me. There are certainly some people out there who made mistakes along the way, but pointing the finger and seeking retribution does fuckall to remedy the situation we have collectively found ourselves in.

HIPAA rules are helping fuel this bullshit. The fact that we aren’t seeing what’s happening inside hospitals is really contributing to a sense of complacency.

A situation in which we could all be pulling together, yet it seems that we're only pulling farther apart?
I love your terminology; we are 'collectively' in this together, whether we like it or not, that's for sure.

The irony is the people who run around worshiping the flag and calling themselves patriots are the ones undermining this collective national effort in service of an ideology of radical individualism.

AcidGandalf said: Seems really convenient for people to come up with conspiracies about COVID. I wonder who benefits. Let's be real, this most likely started in the wet markets. Why? They are filthy hell holes, as are the vast majority of animal agriculture operations. But noooo, nobody wants to hear such animal rights propaganda from the vegoons. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We can't have our cake and eat it folks, hopefully people start realising that.
The positives about this have definitely been the closure of many slaughter houses and meat processing facilities, some permanently. Other than that, all terrible. I don't think this is gonna end any time soon, especially with the rising demand for meat among the growing global middle class. 3 trillion animals a year and counting.
Was this directed at me..? Kind of hard to follow.
As expected the imaging is skewed, because data is no longer reporting to the CDC- it now funnels to HHS. HHS has put their own spin on how the statistics are reported, which will alter the graphs we are used to seeing.
And just because of your triggered response, thought it would be helpful to quote my post from pages long ago.

https://www.texastribune.org/2020/07/27/texas-coronavirus-deaths/
Texas' count of coronavirus deaths jumps 12% after officials change the way they tally COVID-19 fatalities
Hispanic Texans are overrepresented in the state's updated fatality count, making up 47% of deaths, but only 40% of the state's population.
Quote:
After months of undercounting coronavirus deaths, Texas’ formal tally of COVID-19 fatalities grew by more than 600 on Monday after state health officials changed their method of reporting.
The revised count indicates that more than 12% of the state’s death tally was unreported by state health officials before Monday.
The Texas Department of State Health Services is now counting deaths marked on death certificates as caused by COVID-19. Previously, the state relied on local and regional public health departments to verify and report deaths.
Public health experts have said for months that the state’s official death toll is an undercount. State health officials said Monday that the policy change would improve the accuracy and timeliness of their data.
Texas law requires death certificates to be filed within 10 days.
“This method does not include deaths of people who had COVID-19 but died of an unrelated cause,” the Texas Department of State Health Services said in a news release.
Hispanic Texans are overrepresented in the state's updated fatality count, making up 47% of deaths, according to health officials, while they make up about 40% of the state's population. White Texans account for 35% of deaths while Black Texans make up 14% of deaths. Before Monday, the state's racial and ethnic breakdown of deaths had large gaps, with up to 18% of deaths last month recorded as "unknown."
See this post I made 16 days ago
Quote:
The death count reported does not accurately reflect the real death count in Texas at present. Texas does not report "presumed" covid19s death as a covid19 death like new york did. We are now at the point where stretchers are lining the ER hallways with patients often waiting 8 or 12 hours for a real bed. The morgue is full and bodies are now being put into refrigerated trucks. I can tell you for a fact that those bodies in the truck havent been counted in the stats yet and it may be a week or two before they are. Also unlike some states, simply because someone dies with a covid19 positive test does not necessarily mean cause of death will be listed as covid19. People who die in the field or the ambulance on the way are almost never tested, but from the EMT description it is clear that they had it. I can tell you anecdotally that the number of people dying in the last week of all causes is 3 to 5 times higher than it would typically be, and most of those additional deaths are covid related, but that death rate is not reflected by the official stats. The hispanic population in particular is dying at a much greater rate than average and because they tend not to seek hospitalization despite being very sick, they frequently die in short order after arriving, or if they die at home they are never tested. A test may or may not be performed on the body if they do present dead on arrival or die shortly after arriving, but even when it is, that death will typically not appear in the stats for one to two weeks after it occurs. The stats make it seem like the white population is getting hit equally or more hard than the hispanic population but it simply isnt true, there are just a lot more white people going to get tested or being tested regularly in nursing homes, so when they die the medical examiner can much more quickly list covid19 as cause of death.
In about 2 weeks you will have a somewhat more accurate but still incomplete picture of how many people are currently dying of covid.
goddamn if I don't feel like a prophet
