I think it's cool he did something for the community but I don't have much more respect or reverance for such a dude anymore than I would for whoever is handing me whatever at the time. Legit just a drug dealer and one with a shady ass past. There's tons of people out there capable and doing this every day just spreading love and stirring not a drop of water in the pond. Pickard made a splash and he's a celebrity but something I've learned about celebrities over the years is the more you want to know them the more they subvert your expectations. The only real successors to the spiritual intent some of us get from these experiences are the ones imbibing and living it. Those are the homies.

All that said, think of the spiritual value of 90% of the world's acid trips for an era.
That is a very big thing.

They produced up to a kilo every 5 weeks and managed to get it out to the people.
Think of how mny lives that touched and altered, irreversibly.

You only don't know all the other names because they didn't get caught
It's awesome he's being released. Don't get me wrong. But I don't think he's special and I don't think psychedelics make good people. They empower them. That's special all on its own but what that means is positive credit goes not to the one giving you drugs.

I synthed a 32 member macrolactone with a partial polycyclic core that had never been synthed before, and I did it all asymmetrically from readily available starting reagents. Yeah my over yield sucked, still about 10000x more difficult than a semisynth of LSD, or eve a total synth. So no, these guys don't impress me. They follow a recipe, orhave some training then follow a recipe, get good at it, and make $$$$$$ which is what they were in it for to begin with. Anyone who thinks this was some altruistic venture is a moron. I mean that in the nicest way possible. Also I designed the synth myself via retosynthetic analysis, and when I hit walls (I did, hard) I designed clever ways around them. Including a sweet rearrangement reaction and my coup de gras, a biomimetic cascade culminating in the polyciclic reagion with 90% diastereomeric excess.
And about 6 months later a larger, betterfunded lab synthed my compound in 7 less steps with a much greater yield. still proud of my work though.

You could teach a teen to make LSD, thing is he pulled it off on a massive scale, organized the precursors and got the product out to the world.
The synth is almost as easy as making soap, it just requres more exacting circumstances, but theres a whole lot more to what he did than the synth alone.

Yes, the distribution network is something else entirely, something my friend spent 7 year in federal penitentiary for, and someone dropped a dime on him, not sure who cause either he won't tell me, just says it was sealed sworn affidavit. Oh and they caught him with lots of laid blotter, back when they charged by the blotter weight, not the drug weight.
