Help Me Identify Contaminates in Agar Please :)
    #26848573 - 07/27/20 06:47 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hi,

I'm attempting my first grow. I've lost a few grain attempts to bacteria already. Those jars stalled and began to smell like vomit. Now I'm back to my agar plates.

I could use some help figuring out which of these agar plates are clean.

Plate 1:

I'm guessing that the thick stuff on the edges is bacteria and I should toss this plate?

Plate 2:

Looks to me like there's some bacteria (the blobs) and some mycelium (the hairs). Just for my learning here, could I salvage this by transferring from the fuzz to a new agar plate?

Plate 3:
Plate 3
Looks like a clean plate? There's light fuzz and thicker fuzz. I'm thinking I should transfer a piece to another plate, and drop the rest in a grain jar.

Also, one last question: the growth on these plates looks a lot thinner than it was on the ancestor plates. My guess is that this media is less nutritious. I made these plates out of leftover liquid I simmered oats in for 30 minutes or so. Previously, I was dissolving brown rice flour into water at a ratio of 12-18g BRF to 1L water. Does that sound like a reasonable hypothesis?

Appreciate the help!

None

1. Bacteria of sorts

2. Mold

3. More mold
