Lol thats a new one to me, you must have a different breed of local crackheads than i am used to

Yea it's like the pandemic has affected everyone, some good , some not so good  I read somebody say crackheadedly sterile on a writeup or something and it's always stuck with me. Actually I thought it was on your agar tips and tricks thread but I guess not. I think I'm going a bit looney over here

If his hood was defective his entire efforts would explode in mold immediately. Since molds coming in before pinning/second flush and based on the pics I'd say his problem is in his agar/inoculate. No where else.

Yeah, that does seem to make sense, and even I said it was maybe far fetched when I said it. I was thinking though, that perhaps it's really embedded down in there, deep enough to survive a spraying of iso before working if that's being done, so only able to release the very tiniest amount of contams.  But I'd say there is a 99.99997% chance it is something else.  Still, if nothing else was going to be affected by doing it, I'd seal the wood. Commercially built hoods have nonporous surfaces, so I'd do my best to replicate that.

I agree 100% though, this is definitely not the first thing I'd check as there is virtually no chance that's what it is. But why not stack the deck every chance you get!

Here are some pics of my recent agar. The first is from a clone and is the second is from multispore that I'm still transferring. The multispore plate I took some transfers out of and sealed it back up and let it keep growing, that's those little missing chunks you see towards the center.

Check this out though it's very strange I've never seen it before. And this is NOT the kind of stuff I put into jars or anything we've been diagnosing. However I wonder if you guys have seen it before, gaps between sectors that otherwise look healthy. It's strange because the 2nd and 3rd transfers showed no strange gaps like this, it wasn't until the 4th transfer where some of the plates are doing this weird gap thing. If you look closely at the gaps you can see little myc threads reaching across. I don't know if it's some strange genetic anomaly or a reaction to an unseen contaminant.

And in this one you can see that as the myc grew out it enclosed around the gap

I remember reading a few posts about forum members having trouble related to iron bacteria in their well water. It might be something to consider if you have red stains around your plumbing fixtures.

Those weird bare wedges show up now and then. No idea what it is but my theory is it’s just group of myc with really weak growth.

That makes sense thanks. In those pics is the fluffy fuzzy growth toward the center normal? Most of my cultures have done that. It seems like after I make tons of transfers or make a clone that the myc stops doing that on agar. Could that be hidden contams or is it more likely normal growth for younger cultures? I know some cultures are naturally tomentose but some seem like they're tomentose toward the center and rhizo around the edges, not sure what to make of it..

It seems like mushcult is a little more advanced in cultivation practices than our neighbors over in the gourmet section.

I think this is the correct thread. I posted on another earlier, but i think here is the better spot. I am a first time grower. I have had several attempts, and have finally gotten here. I have 2 tubs both were transfered from the rye bags to substrate last week. Both look completely different. I think one may have tric. But I am not 100% convinced. There has been no discoloration. And it doesn't seem to match any of the pics kn the threads I've seen on here. Also thabk you for this. Aftwr failing miserably several times someone directed me here.

Yeah all the best gourmet growers are over here anyways.

I’m not sure about the plates, I do have a lot that fuzz up initially but myc does a lot of crazy stuff on early plates.

There’s no mistaking trich, you’ll know it when you see it.

That top pic looks like it’ll blow up anytime, maybe some bacteria but whatever.

It's the first time I've ever witnessed a TC say that a SAB linked to fan and filter via poly tubing might work...instead of you know, laughing it into oblivion.

Since the contams are identical in the different cultures I bombed the room thinking it may have been spore load of a particular type but that didn't help. I load the tubs carefully in front of the flow hood with gloves on but that doesn't seem to help. Test plates that I've made black transfers into never contam, nor do grain jars that I do blank transfers into ever contam either. I vent the PC 20 minutes and cook jars for 2.5 hours at 18 psi and bags 3.5 hours at 18 psi. Proper synthetic filter disks for jars and unicorn .2 micron bags. I even tried properly pasteurizing my CVG  between 140 and 150 for an hour this time and that didn't help, I know everyone says it's pointless but after you've lost as much as I have you'll try anything.. I have brand new cultures on their 4th transfer from spore going right now and I'm about to drop them into grains but I'm not very hopeful of that doing any better because I've already gone through this with new cultures so many times there's no reason to think this time it will change anything. This is crazy. SOS

Someone had the same problem and it was the coir they were buying had bullshit in it that contaminated all the time .. Pasteurizing didn’t kill the microbes that were impregnated for hydroponic planting..
I can’t remember who posted it though..

That's insightful. I wish it were my problem. As I mentioned in a previous post I have tried every different brand of coir I can find from grow it, zoo med, roots organic, black gold, etc.. all with the same exact results :frown:

PC bags for 3 hours. A2G them. Fully colonised, looked healthy, smelling nice. Spawn with CVG which was pasteurised for 70-80 minutes on proper temperature. Colonised nicely, when I opened lid on tub to flip it (that was 5 seconds), day later I got trich. You think it's spawn ("it's always your spawn") or maybe air in the house?
