Reusing spawn bags

I tried searching and didn't find much. Does anyone reuse spawn bags for grain spawn? I am using unicorn bags with .2 micron filter patches. Assuming the bag doesn't puncture and I seal it close to the opening it would seem like I could keep using it until there isn't enough plastic left above the filter patch to seal it again, like maybe 4 or 5 uses each bag. My concern would be for filter failure. Does anyone have experience or word from the manufacturer about reusing these bags for grain spawn?

I reuse them for other things, but never for multiple runs of grain spawn. I have bags break enough on one run.

Good to know thanks. I wonder if the quality and thickness of a spawn bag could make a difference. I am using the unicorn 3T extra thick bags. They feel durable. I thought I read somewhere boogeyman say that he reuses his 3 or 4 times. You know how it goes reading threads on the shroomery at 2 am Although in a search I could not find mention of it. When bags fail does the filter fail for you or the bag bust at the seems or what?

Any other experienced growers have thoughts on reusing spawn bags?

The filters look flimsy, not sure if multiple PC runs would open up the pores on them or make the filter's seal to the bag fail. I'd hate to waste spawn bags or tubs with problems on reusing .50 cent bags, however if others have rocked the same bags for multiple grain spawn runs I'd be more willing to give it a shot. Surely others have mapped this out. I can't find anything about it using the search function.

all i ask is why?? they are dirt cheap and i wouldnt use them for anythkng other than placing my garbage in after using them. that sounds to me just like a terrible idea and a good way to invite bursting and or other contams to destroy whatever ur putting in there be it more spawn or bulk or both. this is just my opinion is all cuz id gladly spend a few cents for solid piece of mind🤷🏼

Good call jcm you raise a good point. I'm having serious problems with my grow right now as it is. Surely I don't want to add new variables and problems to the mix. I think I'm going back to jars for my next run anyway. I can't figure out what is plaguing all my tubs. Back to basics I suppose.. Thanks for the feedback

I reuse spawn bags that I sterilize my syringes in.
You absolutely could reuse them if you were so inclined.
5lbs of substrate stretches them out a bit more than loose syringes though so may only get one or two reuses before starts to get thin in spots.
The filter would absolutely not be the failure point on reuse. It would be pinholes in corners.

Thanks sandman, I appreciate the feedback! Man I've been having serious problems for a few years now. I've posted stuff from time to time trying to get help and I never am able to work it out despite following all the advice given and having read and tried endless amounts of things. I've seen people post problem threads and folks work with them to diagnose and correct the problems but not many folks chime in on the stuff I'm posting. I think I'm pretty friendly and always offer pics and explanations. Not sure what to do. I really need help this has become painfully disheartening. Any thoughts on what to do? Like should I create a thread, keep posting in the popular discussions like "everything agar" and "general cultivation", make a grow log, or what?

You can hardly get anything answered in general cult when it gets real busy... it moves so fast, everyone just wants to say something, but no one is listening in there.
A thread for your issue is always a safe bet if you can't find anything with the search. But shit, multi year problem is a big problem.
What is the problem you are having?

I lose at least half of my tubs before the end of the first flush, and then lose the rest of them sometime before the end of the second flush. Everyone says the same thing it must be the spawn and I agree but for goodness sakes I never see contams in my agar or spawn, have several different cultures that are not old and I started each from different spores, none of my test plates or jars ever show contams. I'm stumped. A few months ago I went to bags and get the same results, so now I'm going back to jars since bags will only amplify underlying problems

I have been using straight coir for my tubs that I expand in a cooler and am very careful to break up all the small chunks while its piping hot to ensure everything is killed as best as possible. I tried using CVG and get the same results. Most recently I started pasteurizing CVG between 140 and 150 for an hour to see if that would help and it didn't. I've been growing in the same space for awhile so I bombed/fogged the room to reduce the spore load and that didn't help. I use synthetic filter discs on my jars and PC them at 17 to 18 psi for 2.5 hours, I know that's overkill for jars but when shit isn't working I figured it couldn't help to PC longer. I vent the PC for 20 minutes too. I never see wet spot in the grain masters and only ever see little bits here and there on the second grain expansion, I never do a third grain expansion. I use 5 to 6 quarts of spawn and load it in front of my flow hood with gloves on to keep things as clean as possible. I make fairly thin substrates about 2.5 to 3 inches to reduce heat and possible anaerobic fermentation during colonization. My room is always 68 to 70 degrees. I protect the spawn while its colonizing in cleaned empty tubs to reduce spore load on the filters. I'll just stop there as I don't wish to write too much at once, I know it isn't fun to read long posts..
