Found in my garden. I noted the other day that there was a few lookalike libs growing there in another thread and as it's been p**hing down most of the day today I decided to have another look and I found this and some larger ones outside which I'm not too keen to pick just yet....

as I'm a noob to this I thought it best to ask the experts.

sorry for the poor picture quality, it's tiny, found in well kept grass

This is Panaelus sp. The image too blurry to confidently determine the genus, but I suspect this actually might be pan cincts. Can you do a spore print?

I'd say panaeolina foenisecii over cincts. That stem is far to thin for cinctulus.

Not trying to be that guy, but isn’t Panaeolus the genus... the species is the second word in scientific nomenclature.  However I do see that it is common practice to say Pan. Species, but in reality Pan. Is the genus. Again, not trying to be that guy... I would “second this” find being a Panaeolus foenisecii, but a spore print is your best friend.

"Panaeolus sp." means an unspecified species in the panaeolus genus. This is done when the genus is readily identified but the species epithet is more difficult to name.

Gotcha, makes sense, I was just trying to say that Panaeolus was the genus which was identified.  Makes sense to use “sp” when just the genus was given and not specific species. 👍🏼👍🏼
