Man I need to get some more media bottles so I can be picky about the lc’s I wanna use lol. Think I’m gonna go ahead and get a plate anyway since they’re not super expensive.

I just make em outta jars usually. Out of the last 50 or so ive made i cant think of but one that didnt colonize well, and im fairly sure there was a problem with the jar seal because it leaked. So no reason to test that one

I’ve tried lc in jars but I always fumble with the metal lids for some reason. Grain jars are pretty easy but lc gets me, I know it’s the basically the same process but the lid always separates from the band when I try to pick it up. Probably just a mental thing but media bottles are always so easy for me lol.

Plastic lids like blue helix uses are great. When i use metal i pry the lid off with a sterile #7 scalpel handle

I peel the rubber ring off so I can usually pull everything off at once if I just squeeze the band a little. I thought when I started that metal was the way to go but I’m definitely leaning towards unmodded plastic when I grab some more lol. I’d get some now but I spent like 50 bucks on these sfds and I refuse to waste them

If I use pure grain water (oats) with nothing else added and no diluting, is that too much nutes? One time I tried dropping a wedge in 500 ml grain water and nothing happened. Not sure if it's the broth or maybe the wedge wasn't clean (it looked clean to me when I took the transfer)

Should be way more nutrition than needed, but should still work
Id dillute it. But i usually use lme and my LCs come out crystal clear

Damn I've had issues popping jars and I know I've contaminated a few because my clumsy dirty gloved fingers struggle with the seal.

Lol I actually sterilized a bottle opener before somebody told me to pop the lid with the back of the scalpel.
I’m loving these plastic one pieces so far.

What speed do you guys leave your stir plates on? I’ve heard both 60rpm and 300rpm 24/7, not sure which model I should go for either

It depends on how big your stir bar is and maybe even what specie. I tell you that I use a 2" stir bar and around 78 rpm 24/7 stir gives good results. Much slower and the mycelium builds/clogs up along the walls of the jars and stuff. 300 RPM with this stir bar makes it quite turbulent in there I dunno. I use a Chemglass Dura-mag 5 position stirrer it's pretty Cadillac. Recommend, but don't forget to order a 24v dc power adapter if you get a used one because it probably wont have it.
