Wet spots in Bags w/ Pics - Salvageable?
    #26846754 - 07/26/20 08:14 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

I am new to using spawn bags and thought everything was going well until I noticed 2 of my bags had wet spot in them. They were made with Oats and knocked up with a quart of WBS that I had before I switched to oats.

Oats were prepared using the EAT’S EASY OAT PREP™ and bags were done as shown in Frank's spawn bag pictorials, most pictures now included

I added the spawn 8 days ago

I am almost certain the issue was that I forgot to turn my heater back to timer mode and the bags were headed from around 78F to 82F for a day or 2. It was either that or that my grain was over-hydrated.

I was curious if there was anything I could do to salvage these bags if they do finish colonizing, such as spawning to a drier substrate than I would normally do (Coir/Verm). Any recommendations?

Cheers!

Oats too wet. Bacteria set in fo sure. The temps did not help any.
Dont transfer as it will only continue.
You can try & run em & pray as I have seen fruits from bacterial spawn but your best bet is to cut your losses now & bury em in the great outdoors & start over. I feel your pain as I boogered 60 bags of oysters recently switching from pc to giant steamer. Bags need to be hydrated just right on the dryer side even or they go to crap quickly.

An almost fool proof (for me in my enviorment) has been oats & milo 2 to 1 ratio soaked 24 hrs & drained for 30 min. No simmer. Load em up on the wet side & pc or in my case steam 24 hrs.
