Just looking through twitter about south Texas and it’s like third world conditions now. People dying in the hospital parking lot type shit. No place to put the bodies. Dozens of people dying in one hospital in a day.

I hate to see that many people die. But politically that could turn Texas.

Except the only ones who will show up to vote will be the trumpies who still think the virus isn't real.

I can make stuff up too and pretend to work at a hospital. That whole text sounds ridiculous.

What is the agenda of people like you who just refuse to acinowlege the reality of the situation? You think all these people are just making it up? It’s sinister.

McALLEN— Juan Lopez is in the ambulance bay of a McAllen hospital, zipping a gauzy blue jumpsuit over a Polo button-down and work slacks. Two well-worn stretchers are in the back of his Cadillac Escalade, a pack of Marlboros near the gear shift.
It’s Saturday morning in South Texas, and the corpse of a 60-something-year-old needs to get to a funeral home — specifically, a refrigerated truck behind a funeral home that’s run out of storage space. The deceased coronavirus patient goes in the back of the Escalade, and Lopez heads to retrieve a body from another hospital’s morgue.
These are the first jobs of the day — and far from the last. Lopez will pick up 16 bodies Saturday, wake up at 2 a.m. Sunday and transport 22 more, including a husband and wife both infected with the virus.

If it wasn’t for voter suppression Texas would already be a blue state.

Seems like everyone who complains about voter ID finds a way to get a welfare check and EBT card.

Probably because not starving to death is slightly more important than voting, especially when you figure voting won’t change your material situation whether you do or don’t.
Doesn’t change the fact that voter id laws reduce voter turnout, typically for populations that vote Democrat. But that’s not to say Democrats don’t suppress voters as well, anyone who’s followed either of the last two presidential primaries can attest to that.

It's always a game lol. but when people mention voter suppression I feel like it's usually pertaining to the Republicans voter ID stuff. Which I mean fuck how could anyone seriously argue against voter ID. Republicans usually don't make a lot of sense but you need an ID to do shit.

Anyone that understands that in person voter fraud is a completely insignificant threat.
Discouraging hundreds of thousands of potential voters to stop a few dozen illegally cast votes is not an acceptable trade off in a democracy.
If voter ID laws were really about securing elections and not suppressing the vote, then governments would make it easy to obtain an acceptable ID at no cost. The state of Texas says that a gun license is an acceptable form of ID but a college ID issued by public university is not. If you can’t see how that is a policy designed to weed out certain types of people, then you are not being intellectually honest.

Gun licences are issued by the government not a business. A college ID is monopoly money. I got a fake college ID in Germany when I went there from a friend get around the country
Felons can go to school. They cannot get a gun licence.
You need a real ID to get a gun licence. You don't need an ID at all to get a student ID if you're clever

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that there are a huge number of people out there getting fake IDs to vote.
Voter fraud had never been a big issue in national elections. The only time I've ever even heard of it swaying a result was in some school board election in a small town. In the big picture, it's better to remove as many barriers to voting as possible, since voter participation is so abysmally low as it is.

I thought it was some great civic responsibility, but I guess you don't need to have any responsibility to do it.
You should at least have the credentials to buy cigs and liquor to vote

Voting is a civic responsibility. Why should someone have to go through the process of getting a state-issued ID to exercise his/her right to vote? Are you saying that buying cigarettes and alcohol is on par with voting?

Ironically the DMV + Covid-19 has made it abundantly easy to obtain any services you need. The DMV got a 30 year technology upgrade within weeks because of this situation

Good for them. Can you explain how this makes it reasonable to compel citizens to get a state-issued ID just to exercise their right to vote?
