Cultivating Mimosa Root from the North Carolina Mountains???
    #26845153 - 07/25/20 08:32 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Cultivating Mimosa Root from the North Carolina Mountains??? Has anyone done it successfully? There are tons of trees in my area of the blue ridge mountains which are blooming at this time of year (mid July)which makes them easy to spot. I have dug up the roots and stripped the bark but the inner bark is yellow and not purple. So, I am wondering am I wasting my time. I have about a kilo and have started the muric acid bath on 350 grams.

Any help would be appreciated....

No idea but mimosas are an invasive species that discourage flora from growing nearby so don't feel bad if you decide to dig up more.

They're best being maintained on private land.

Is this the stuff you’re talking about? It’s all over the place around here

Not every Mimosa species or relative is going to be a DMT source like Mimosa hostilis. Sounds like the "mimosa" trees there are Albizia julibrissin, which does not produce DMT.

One fairly closesly related DMT producing plant that grows natively in the US is Desmanthus illinoensis. You can buy seeds by the pound pretty affordably. Sounds like yields from the rootbark are fairly low though.

Yep. They're invasive from Asia.

Dr. Seuss trees are cool but they're not good trees. It's why they're everywhere here. The local ecosystem is not evolved to consume or compete with it.
