brf half pint jars that have shown no colonization in over 2 weeks
    #26844845 - 07/25/20 03:48 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

I inoculated 7 half pint jars over 2 weeks ago 2 of them are half way colonized and one is fully colonized, the rest have no signs of mycelium growth. Should I go ahead and dump the 4 that have no growth clean out the jars and inoculate again with fresh substrate or should I wait it out?

Spores sometimes take a while. If they're still lifeless when you fruit the good ones, trash them.

Yea I 2nd that.
First ones I did took about a month for a sign of life. If there are only a few spores in that drop might take a while.

No harm in just holding for a couple more weeks.

Mushroom growing will teach patience to us huh.

Would it be a good idea to fruit cakes in a sgfc in the same closet that I have jars colonizing in or would the light have bad effects on my jars colonizing

You will find you probably won't get good growth from a closest.
There won't be enough fresh air. Unless you're introducing air.

Other than that I don't see any problems.

I've left jars colonising in daylight. You can get pinning in jar but as long as you're going to use shortly after 100% I wouldn't worry.

If you are worrying, just cover with something but I wouldn't bother.

Yeah but if I leave it out In a room with central air and heat in the house wouldn’t that dry out the cakes? Especially if the ceiling fan is on?

That's what the sgfc is for. Maintaining humidity while allowing fresh air.
If you have Central heating on you might just have to mist a bit more when you do to replace the water lost.

You'll have way better outcomes out of the closet than in the closet.

That advice can be taken more broadly if appropriate.

Haha. Alright well I have one cake that is about ready to be birthed it is way ahead of the other two, I’m thinking about using a plastic jug  just with wholes drilled and perlite added to the bottom. I have heard that fruiting one cake in a large sgfc doesn’t work well and the humidity and temp isn’t right because of all the open space

What you're saying would be appropriate. I'm sure you could get that to work. And I'm sure you're keen to get it fruiting. Couldn't hurt at all.

It is way easier to keep humidity up with full sgfc.

Do you think 3 inches of perlite in jug would be adequate for one cake?

Yea I think it's worth trying. You'll only have it in short term until others catch up. I think that would be good. Has it had a chance to consolidate. I'd give it a week after full colonisation.

Some pics would help tremendously as to what the issue is.
