Hello everyone, I'm new here, found this beautiful community through reddit and quite excited!
So, i just started learning about these awesome herbs and now extremely interested to grow them including majik ones
Nowadays i'm collecting information about the medicinal ones like Reishi and Lion's mane.
Today i was surfing and the top result from google I've found a blog about Reishi which pretty much scared me, I was searching when you start seeing results from consuming them, I've low immunity issue and as far as I've read that Reishi is the best for Immunity, I read on the blog that:
"The Susan G. Komen Foundation note that reishi mushroom extract is possibly safe for up to 1 year when a person takes it orally. However, they also note that taking powdered reishi mushroom for longer than 1 month may be toxic to the liver. Other potential side effects include:
nausea insomnia chronic diarrhea liver toxicity dryness in the mouth, throat, and nose itchiness nosebleeds bloody stool Liver toxicity is a dangerous side effect that can lead to death".
Now i'm confused that something which is known good for Liver is also life threatening, I need to clear that doubt from someone experienced here who's been consuming them for more than 1 - 2 years and i need to know the benefits they are seeing and obviously the side effects if there are any?
because i just started learning these herbs and planning to grow.
Sorry if this is a dumb question and if it doesn't fit in the correct section.

I haven't taken reishi at all but I suggest reading research papers about the toxicity as opposed to blogs, you can find alot of these for free on google scholar. In regards to lion manes the toxicology has been studied pretty extensively and there is little too no signs of toxicity from consumption. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.toxrep.2014.11.009 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.fct.2014.04.040
I am sure you can find similar papers on reishi that can confirm or discredit your concerns.

Utter nonsense. I'd suggest reading a better source as well.

I would advise against powdered reishi. Any uncooked mushrooms can cause some of theses symptoms. Dosages are also not mentioned. When taking medicinals , double tinctures are the way to go IMO. Then calculate a safe dose for long term use.

Good point! Any sort of powder can cause gastro effects for some, tinctures are the best way to get around that possibility
