I might have my threads crossed over. Someone said your shouldn't pasturise supplemented wheat bran. If it's supplemented sawdust you should always sterilise. I couldQuote:
dr0384 said: They need to be sterilized? Really? I've done about 4 bags in 4 weeks and have had no contaminations. I normally pasteurise for 1 hour between 60-70c. High spawn ratio normally though. 5 cups pellets , 1 1/4 cups weat bran.
But this one I did different. As mentioned above. Bright to 80c and let cool. Didn't watch Just put in one jar of spawn but moisture was off. Thought it would contaminate.
That's what this quote was about.
Has someone changed their Post.
Anyways now I'm unsure.
Should you pasteurized supplemented sawdust? I've done it whole bunch of times and it hasn't failed me too many times.
Anyways I'm aware those fruits are not in ideal conditions. But I work 12-hour days and cannot spend that much time on this hobby. They are outdoors so I literally could not give them any more fresh air if I tried. They were just light exposed fruiting conditions because I thought the bag was going to contaminate anyway. Because I had to higher water content

yeah, you should sterilize supplemented wood pellet bags for sure. I have had mixed success with the unsupplemented wood pellets + boiling water in the bag tek (LIPA tek), I'll do 6 bags and one will contam every time. so I've switched back to sterilizing, and as long as I'm sterilizing, might as well supplement right? so far so good.
shroomsisay has never steered me wrong. you could give those more FAE simply by unzipping the tent or if you haven't yet and are willing to, putting a couple slices in the side of the greenhouse, just a couple inches or so, i've got at least one slice on each panel/shelf area. I understand if you don't want to spend the time fiddling with that though. Lately I've taken to keeping the bags inside until the forecast is mushroom weather, and then wrapping/slicing them the day before and placing them in my sliced up greenhouse with the door unzipped. for me it beats going out there to mist the chamber all the time.

Yea I've gone back to sterilizing too. But going to have to pasturise for this spawn bag. So I'll just do straight sawdust then.
Thanks.
I have the tent unzipped completely so I think they are getting enough fae at this stage. It's that they were put in fruiting chamber late. So already grew under low fae conditions.
I didn't want to cut holes in side yet. I want to make a bucket fogger for the summer as it gets very dry and hot here. And I'm not around for long hours. And I wanted to add the holes to calibrate it after that. I work too many hours to move them inside and outside, especially as our local weather pattern has not pattern. I'd get it wrong half the time anyways.
Thanks for the advice though. It does make sense.

ha, i hear you on unpredictable weather patterns, i've been waiting all day for this supposed thunderstorm to appear...
and yeah every situation has it's unique things for sure, you know best what works for what you've got goin on
as for your question about others you might like to grow, I like wine cap, pioppino, king oysters...they're tasty and relatively straight forward to grow if you've done oysters and shiitake already, just cycle them in/out for whatever temps they need (not sure what seasons are like where you're at) good luck!
