1st time picking (saw something interesting around the corner) - just grab from the stem and pull?

Hi - I’ve seen a few small clusters around the neighborhood on the fringe of a golf course I think might be psychedelic. I haven’t done shrooms in at least 10 years and will need big help with ID but first want to make sure I pick (and dry? store?) correctly. Just grab the base of the stem and pull?
You might think I’m crazy for automatically thinking these are psychadelic but they look like shrooms I’ve eaten (at least from afar) long ago and even seen on recent streaming specials. I live in SW FL and there are cow pastures around the community. The patches I saw weren’t in the pasture or growing in manure but maybe a 5-10 minute walk from the pasture in low grass that’s pretty frequently mowed. There are ponds nearby chock full of wildlife including gators of every size including monster, tons of species of birds, thousands of rabbits, occasional coyotes. Could they be fertilized that way?
Anyway, I’ll post pictures once I get the advice on how to pick and carry.

Some folks say cut them at the base of the stem, others say pull, others say it makes no difference. Go get em

I Don't Think Pulling/Cutting Would Matter So Much With Species Growing From Grass Or Something Like That, However I Do Recommend Cutting At The Base For Species Growing From Dung, Since The Mycelium Is Isolated To The Patty

Thanks. I got some of them and I have an ID post ready to go but I can't seem to attach all the good pics I have.

I used to use scissors, now I just pluck them out by hand.
Sometimes scissors can be easier and quicker when faced with heaps of huge mushrooms that need harvesting.
Sometimes it is just easier to pull the mushroom out of the substrate. Whatever seems more sufficient I suppose.
If you choose to harvest without scissors, just make sure that you don't pull out great chunks of substrate and mycelium along with the mushrooms.

The cutting vs pulling is an age old debate. Doc suggests cutting due to Phytophora cinamomi (sp?) in Australia (perhaps also NZ), i guess particularly at the base of trees because it favours disturbed soil.
Personally i think cutting is good because you will minimize the amount of soil that will get into the caps, thus keeping your mushrooms cleaner. If you want to propagate patches then getting stem butts by pulling is the way to go. A few stem butts is all you really need. I have taken a bit of myc recently from a disturbed patch and i regret it, i got too greedy and was thinking because people were disturbing the myc it was fine to get a fair quantity of it. I have grown some myc in tubs for propagating before that, only did so with a minimal amount of sub myc substrate and it worked perfectly fine.
There is a certain satisfaction you get from treating a patch properly, disturbing it as least as possible.
