Damian5050's tek, B+ comments please?
    #26843212 - 07/24/20 05:59 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

No pics yet, sorry.
I made a medium size B+ tub, following Damian5050's tek, scaled down to 2 quarts of rye grain spawn. Wrapped in black plastic bags, it sat at ~82° for 10 days. At 10 days, I checked, and it looked very dry, and the surface myc was wispy and weak. I poured a full cup of water on the surface, which was quickly absorbed. The tub was moved to the basement which is ~76° all day.
Now, 4 days later, the surface is 99% nice solid myc, which looks like cottage cheese, smells great, and there is good condensation on the sides and inside lid. Only a few tiny spots aren't covered in myc yet.
I fanned the tub a little, replaced the lid, and am inclined to flip the lid now.
I didn't mist bc it had good condensation so far inside the tub. The tub is not modified, so the inverted lid would be the only fae. Am I on the right track with this? The basement gets decent light during the day.
Thanks!

Sounds like it. I’d skip the plastic bag and the heat next time, though. Pics would help, though

<<skip the heat...>> so, go directly to the basement/fruiting temperature?

Yep. The fungi like the heat, but not as much as some bacteria do. I’d do the whole thing at room temp.

So, just flip the lid for fae now, and wait for pins? Does it matter if I fan it occasionally?
Thanks!

Fanning can help a little bit with evaporation, and with getting some exercise in 2020, but just taking the lid off is a LOT of FAE.

Flipping the lid increases the FAE by a lot too, so keep an eye on your humidity if you do that
