Oyster mushrooms falling off bags * 1
    #26842099 - 07/24/20 07:03 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

I have been having problems with bags falling off the shelves.. mostly fixed that problem as it was my shelves.. Although I did have one that still fell off and wiped out a total of 3 clusters including itself after I made the shelving fix. The mushroom cluster weighed more than the bag so it pulled the bag off. Now I am seeing my clusters just completely come off. OK well its only 1 cluster, but still...  Anyone know whats up with this? losing clusters to the floor is not a good way to have product....

Sounds like you need to reduce the size of the clusters, easiest way I know of is making more of them, ie; more x's.  The more you have, the less weighty each will be is generally how it grows.

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.

If you cut the bottom of the bag and flip the bag upside down. All the weight will be on top of the bag. Cutting the bottom of the bag solves a lot of problems including Getting fruits under the bag that do not mature properly.

I can't top fruit. My space is designed for side fruiting. And no room to top fruit. I don't really get fruits under the bag. I am getting better at folding them. I have never read anyone mentioning a problem like this so I am kerpuzzled. And I know people using the 12 lb bags get cluster up to around 4 lbs sometimes and I don't hear about them falling off.. but .. These at 1-2 lbs been pulling the bags over the side. :crazy2:

Anyplace the sub gets FAE it will fruit. That is why I stopped side fruiting. There are indents on the sides that allow fresh air to get in when you slice the bag. Then they will fruit under the bag. Then you have to clean up the bad looking mushrooms that pined under the bag. If you can not top fruit then I would still flip the bag over pull the top of bag through the wire shelving and use the reclosable ties to zip tie it to the shelves. It would be more work but at least no more bags will hit the floor.

If anyone is getting a 4 lb cluster on the side of the bag it is tipping to that side. That is just the law of gravity. I think most people top fruit. Then I don't care how heavy it is it will be ok.

Oh. I sit the bag on its side so that the bottom sticks to the side and I slit the bottom, now side, for side fruiting. I don't really see side bag fruits lately, except on 2nd flushes sometimes. Been getting the bag pretty tight. There should be more weight in the bag than the mushroom I would think but..

I had thought of that idea of zip tying the bags down. Or some quick release bars that hold the bag in place. But that would require cutting wood and I don't like the idea of sawdust in the fruiting chamber...

If you are sitting them on their side just zip tie the top of the bag to the wire rack. Or if you have enough room just sit a 2 x 6 across all the bags that will give it enough weight to where it cant move.

I am trying a new angle of how they sit on the shelf. See if that works. Otherwise I think I might need to just empty my FC and drill the holes for the back poles a little lower so that that bag angles back away from the edge where the mushrooms are poking out. Then vacuum the something out of the FC afterwards. That should fix it if I need to.
