shoebox lack of fruits

What is going on here? its been 17 days, I've got some fruits in a corner but the rest don't even have any pins coming in, the same box has a lot of side and underpins, is this due to poor humidity on surface? should I mist more often? i mist twice a day but sometimes it seems like its too wet, but I notice discoloration in one of the corners

Yeah, I agree with ^, lookls dry. The pins are forming in the micro-climate that they like or at least find as their best option. More water/humidity IMO.

It looks dry now, but to me it also looks matted. That happens when it’s too wet. How long have you been misting twice a day? Shoeboxes usually don’t need that much attention.

It’s not really about misting more as much as keeping the humidity high enough. You should cut down airflow a little bit. The reason they’re on the sides and bottom is because it’s staying humid there.

Are you dub tubbing, or keeping the lid on?

Hey plotikai, how did you set this box up? Was coir at field cap? Was top layer misted before letting it colonize? After spawning did you mess with it or let it be? Is your climate really dry?
If the box was set up properly your surface conditions should not require any maintenance before the first flush. Here is an example of my latest box.

- Coir was at field capacity, infact I had already got my fruits 5 days earlier from a 30L and a 60L tub I did with the same coir - I did not mist or touch the top layer before letting it colonize, I did not mess with it at all minus misting it after fully colonizing - My place typically sits around 40-50% humidity

- I have the lid on top (but not clicked tight), I also have another shoebox with a grocery bag on top that is having the same problems

I have been misting quite a bit, its possible i could have been misting too much, I assumed I was looking for the micro climate on the surface, but whenever I looked I didnt see one so I misted heavier

For some reason this box is not keeping a proper surface condition on the top. All the energy is focused to the bottom and sides. Can you move the cake to a new bigger tub?

I can, take a look at my other shoebox though

looks a bit better, but I've got the same issue in the corner with discolouration, what is causing this? too much air flow drying out that area? This shoebox had a bag on top, and a hole on that side of the bag.

Looks like too much air dried it out a little.
They look decent though, if you can keep humidity up next time they should be awesome.
