Question about metabolites

Hey what's good bro. Just had a quick question about metabolites. Is it possible for metabolites to appear on the surface of a substrate without the presence of contams? Like for example if I let it colonize for too long before introducing it to fruiting conditions could that possibly cause metabolites to start to appear? Or is it for sure the sign of a contam everytime? Thanks in advance for any insight brothers. Stay shroomy. -Pistolpete

A little spot of metabolites isn't bad, but you don't want it pooling up with the stuff.
Metabolites mean that something is stressing the mycelium. It might be a contam or high temps, but it doesn't automatically mean you've failed. Let it ride and see what happens.
I don't ever recall reading any info regarding metabolites and longer consolidation, but I doubt if that is the issue.

Hell yeah thanks bro. Yeah I mean aside from these scattered droplets of metabolites the tub looks great. Water droplets all over, not pooling tho. Almost like dew. Walls stay wet throughout the day. Temperature could be the issue though. It gets really hot where it's at. I just assumed that the hotter the better (within reason ofcourse). It probably gets anywhere from 80-90 degrees throughout the day

That's likely your problem my guy. Anything over 83 degrees F is going to stress your myc and invite contams to join the party. It's definitely trickier to cool your myc rather than heat it up, but if you have a closet or room in your place that's lower in temp than the surrounding area, you'll probably see better results. Post pics of your metabolites if you're worried about it, but like what lunchbox said, just let it riiiiide
