What temperature do you use during pinning and first flush?

I am seeing pinning process take a long time. The pins are tiny dots for days. I would like to know what you growers are doing for temperature during the time:
- just before pinning - during pinning - first flush
I am dropping the temperature a few days after casing from 70-75F to 58F. Then I am holding it at the cooler temp for the whole flush. I have humidity at 95-96% and a fan for FAE.
Since I have a new batch of blue oyster just starting to pin, should I raise the temperature as soon I see pins to speed up the process? Or should I just leave it at 58F. I would like to hear what you are doing. This pinning process seems to take a long time for me.

That is going to depend on what you are growing. Shiitake will be at a different temp than Pink oysters for example.

For blue oyster, 58F would be a great temperature to just leave it at. Definitely don't raise the temps - they will grow slower colder, but the fruits will be better quality, denser and have better shelf life than when grown at higher temperatures.

I am sorry I didn't see that he said blue oyster. I see it now.

I think maybe you were right and other species were referred to first, since they mentioned casing (dunno who would case oysters) - I was just answering what we could, about the blues.
Let us know what other species you were talking about and we can help!

Yes, I agree. I mentioned Blue Oyster in my post.

Got it. Thanks. I thought it was better to case mycelium. Someone mentioned mushrooms like to grow through something. I used verm casing. It does feel like I did 3 colonizations (spawn, substrate colonization, and then again with verm colonization). Good thing mycelium just wants to keep going 'cause I am tired of watching and waiting.

Yeah it won't hurt your grow, but in the future there's no need to case regular oysters, so you can save yourself that step next time.

Good to know It would save me at least 7-10 days.

I am guessing I need to case the Enokis, correct?

For what reason are you thinking of casing them?
Personally, I've never cased anything, but that's just me. My enoki grew just fine without a casing layer.

Most videos always go over casing with coconut coir or vermiculite for moisture retention and some structure for mushrooms to grow through. This is way I have learned to grow. I just started a poll of growers who do and don't use casing.

Cool you know what you're doing then
I just always ask if people understand why they're doing it or not, sometimes they just follow steps they read blindly.
There's definitely valid reasons for both sides, I won't argue for either as I don't think it matters honestly (except for the species that NEED casing). Enoki isn't one of them though, so it's up to you.

Well, the pins stayed small for days. I did what you said not to do. I raised the temp to 61F and almost instantly I can see blue caps.
