ate!! mycelia
    #2683583 - 05/15/04 07:11 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

I did this after reading you could eat mycelia. I have been growing for awile and I have never been able to get my cakes to fruit, so I ate one of them this time out of frustration. I put them in a rubermaid with perlite but the just always get fuzzy and never pin. After a while they just get this dried out chalky feel to them. I break the cakes a part and its like rubber in there....do anyone know why my cakes never pin? IEven if the humidity is high...don't shrooms love it humid?? Anyway I slammed my brownrice cakes with somestraberries in a blender...There was a guy on another post that said you can trip this way....we'll see..

Are you fanning them enough, you need air exchange to kick them into fruiting mode, if its still super humid it'll just keep trying to grow mycelium, once they start fruiting keep it humid again to get them nice and big, then fan them a few days when you want more pins. Thats what used to work for me quite consistently.

I meant a few times a day, but for a few days aswell, and you don't have to worry about contaminating them by fanning them if your cakes are healthy and colonized because the mycelium will protect the substrate if its completely covered.
