PC’d Grow Bags with Dry Grains on Bottom

I recently followed a popular tek for prepping rye berries and used my PC for five bags. They are currently doing well and mycelium is growing in them, however I looked on the underside of the bags this morning and noticed a thin layer of dry grains that were obviously ‘cooked’ when I PC’d the bags. It probably amounts to around 5% of the total mass of grain per bag, but I was wondering if there was a way to prevent this. The other grains are nice looking, very plump and juicy. Please let me know what you guys think.

Time will show? In the end the worst case scenario would be that the dry berries fell off of the colonized mass I think.
Edit: were the bags directly on the bottom of the cooker?

I had the tray within the cooker elevated up approximately 2 inches off the bottom of the cooker and the bags were on the tray. I think I solved the problem anyways. This is probably a good thing to share. Most people would avoid this but i apparently wasn’t smart enough. I purchased a seedling heating mat to use and keep my bags warm since my laboratory is usually a bit on the chilly side. I now believe that the direct heat from the mat dried out a few of the grains in direct contact on the underside of the bags. That has to be it because I don’t recall the bags having any dry spots after I PC’d or even after I threw my wedges in there. So word to the wise, don’t use a seedling heating mat. I have used a graphene sheet to heat jars in the past, but that heat is more slight and definitely more indirect in nature. Sorry for wasting your time and being an idiot.

This thread was moved from Getting Started.
Reason: This whole thing sounds like a bacteria breeding ground which will evolve into a mold farm later on when you spawn it. Pics would help. Actually the proper board would help, you’re in the wrong place.

Oooh yeah setting them on the heat mat was a bad idea, sounds like that was the problem. What is your room temperature?
I don't think it was your PC cycle but in my Presto 23 I have to put 2 layers of jar rings under the trivet, the first time I ran bags in it the part of the bags that touched the bottom walls melted. My AA never gives me this problem.

Room temperature is just a bit under 70F on average. The bags have a nice clean mycelium growth, and the dry grains are now stopped at the 5% of the bag mass now that I have removed the seedling mat. You were right. Very poor choice. Now I know.

Oh your room temperature is perfect! No need to add heat at all.

The bags seem to be moving forward nicely. We shall see. Thanks for the advice.
