All in one grow bag, Added to mono tub and mix with box substrate to early help
    #26753983 - 06/18/20 10:42 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

So I was using it all in one grow bag from fresh cultivators, this is my first time attempting to grow mushrooms. Initially I made a mistake and I put all 10cc Into the one grow bag a 2 1/2 pound bag. So right from the get go it took a little extra time to start spreading, but after about four weeks I had about 60% mycelium coverage in the bag. I broke it all up and mixed it all together in the bag, Gave it another week and it was about 70% colonized. I bought a 15 gallon sterilite light coat from Walmart, Put down 4 quarts of perlite after cleaning it very well, then I put foil on top of that, and then I broke my substrate and spawn bag Until it was all broken apart, and I dumped it on top of the foil. Initially I put too much water on the perlite, and it was really growing good, and then I got contaminated and I ended up losing about 30% of my substrate. I carefully removed all the green substrate in the tote and moved it outside in the shade in the planter box and covered it with a den layer of coconut coir. That I’m just letting grow naturally as an experiment to see what happens. Once all the green was removed I drained the tub By putting four tiny holes in the bottom and letting the water that was built up drain out completely, and then I let it dry for four days until I didn’t have any moisture droplets left on the side or top of the tote. I then took About 3 quarts of sterilized coconut coir And I mixed it all Together with the substrate I had left in my tote put a tiny missing of water on it, and then I put about a quarter to a half inch more of the coconut coir on top of it. After a total of eight days since the first sign of green, I have had a little bit of growth but the good news is the tote is back to smelling like mushrooms again and I haven’t seen any sign whatsoever of the green returning. Up until this point I had the tote unmodified And I have been fanning it twice daily other than that it’s been sealed and sitting next to a window in a room that’s about 80°. I have seen very little in the way of mycelium growth inside the tote since then, and that was about five days ago.

Today I cut holes in the tote and covered them with micropore tape, trying to let fresh air in, but I’ve been seeing a lot of contradicting posts about whether you need fresh air exchange during the colonization of the monotub, i’ve also seen a little bit a contradiction about whether or not it’s OK to be next to a window in the sunlight, or if I should wait until it’s 100% colonized?? So after I cut the holes, I decided to take a black trash bag and completely cover the tote taping it at the bottom, it’s not completely sealed but it’s definitely got good coverage and it’s keeping most of the air out of the holes for now, and keeping it out of the sunlight. Should I leave it like this in hopes that it will start colonizing faster?? Or should I take the bag off and continue to fan it Daily and mist it when it gets completely dry?? Will it colonize My bulk substrate in my tote without fresh air exchange and water being misted on it? Or should I take the trash bag off and leave the holes Uncovered and leave it in the light??

Any help or replies would be muchly appreciated, thanks in advance.

P. S. I know almost all of the information I could find said if any green is on the substrate you might as well scratch the grill and start fresh again. But I’m wondering if my case is different because I don’t really think it was contaminated as much so as having Too much humidity, but heck what do I know I’m so new at this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. But I’m curious is it a good sign that no green has returned and the tote smells like mushrooms again?

Little more info, the strain is Amazonian, in total it’s been a little over a month since I first inoculated my all in one grow bag. Looking back now after what I’m going through I really wish I had just cut the top off the bag and let it roll in the bag, but I didn’t fully understand the all in one grow bag, I was under the impression that all in one grow bag meant it had spawn and substrate, And you use that colonize everything with mycelium, And of course I watch stupid YouTube video where the guy cut the top off and dumped it on a tote very similar to the one I’m using, and I didn’t find out until after that I could’ve just let them grow in the bag. But live and learn right? Anyways I appreciate all the information here, And if you guys can help me that would be awesome.

how'd it turn out?
I got that same grow bag because of their youtube video... Dudes sent me a free coronavirus mask with my order... I did a 2.5 lb bag like the video and got about 20g dry from 2 flushes, hoping for a third.

Got 2 more 5lb bags, was going to take one and dump it into an unmodified monotub, grow the other like the video... I'm thinking about getting a pressure cooker and doing my own grain/oats jars then preping the coir and the only thing I'll buy will be some different spores, oats, and grains as needed.

What are the wood chips in your pics? did u get anything out of this?
