My First batch

Hey guys! I am so excited to show off my first batch of mushrooms. I know a few of the cakes have some issues and I don't think we did everything quite right, but we're on our way. I've already been able to harvest about half a gram so far and they've only just begun to pin. Please take a look at my cakes and tell me what you think. Any advice is welcomed.

So one thing I've noticed is that all of the mushrooms seem to be pinning from the perlite. How come? I thought they were going to pin on the cake.

both these guys got contaminated, but we treated them pretty much the same as all the other cakes. I don't understand why this happened.
the rest seem to be doing well:

this guy had an accident, he needs to learn to hold in his spores

This one didn't colonize the edge, is there a reason that happens?
On all of the cakes the mycelium is hard, is that normal? I think my partner forgot to rehydrate the cakes before putting them in the fruiting chamber and i assume that's why the mushrooms are pinning in the perlite. I need to ask him about that, but in the meantime what are your thoughts. How'd we do?

lol that’s why you’re supposed to put the cakes on the lid or a little piece of foil.
When it’s in contact with the perlite the myc colonizes it which also prolongs fruiting. It looks pretty cool though.
You need to get the ones with mold out ASAP.

That green mold will spread to the other cakes. They might still produce mushrooms but the second the first flush is over and the myc is weak for a second it’ll be all over with.

Toss the contaminated cakes... You don't want them to spread to the healthy ones.. The others look nice though.. just focus on keeping them happy.
..and as A.k.a said, be sure they are sitting on foil or a lid.
Good luck.. Nice first grow!
Cheers!

Spore syringes usually have some other spores in them besides cubensis. It’s tough to get 100% clean syringes even from good vendors so you will sometimes have something contaminate. It could also be a mistake during inoculation on those particular cakes.
The one with the edge uncolonized should have been left a little longer in the jar, maybe flipped for the last week if the growth had totally stalled. Though an FYI once you flip a pf tek jar you just leave it flipped because you’ve then shaken up the dry vermiculite layer which has been stopping mold spores etc.
And like aka said, you usually put something under the cakes so they don’t grow into the perlite...but it does look awesome 😎. Just make sure you clean all that off, I don’t think they’d be nice on your innards.
