Baby seagull stuck in my cousins garden

Found this little guy in the garden, I spooked him and he's hiding from me so I throw it some food.
As I tried to pick him up he pecked my hand ever so slightly and ran to a set of stone steps jumping up one and falling on his face into the second step... I was hovering over him and he basically let me pick him up. I took him to the back gate that leads out onto a urban residential field and pathway to other houses, I put him down on the pavement and there's alot of other seagulls around some are squawking at me right on the wall near my head. Immediately a big gull swoops down grabs the baby by the wing and startings yanking its wing, a couple more big gulls come down and broke it up. I've heard it squawking for hours now, it seems too old to still be getting looked after by mother but it can't even fly? Hope it's okay

This is a UK seagull, we have millions of seagulls lol. Is CO colorado? It is illegal to kill them, and I could never do such a thing anyway.

Chicks are not independent until they're three months old. You could feed it at least until it's able to fly (soon) and catch food without having to compete with the adult males near the house.

It comes back everyday and I've found where it's sleeping. It spends most of its time out in the streets and comes back to sleep every night lol.
I've had to pick him up multiple times, isn't so scared of me anymore I'm giving it food, but won't eat I'm sure when he's going out and getting enough to eat somehow... He's a true warrior.
Named him Trip, because he's always falling over its like he's no balance atall...

Thanks for the tip I could do that, not sure it's necessary though... He's spreading his wings out more and he even jumps off ledges in the garden and uses his wings to glide down, pretty incredible to watch really.
I was just in the shower when my cousin starts shouting that I need to help I thought my cousin had hurt himself or something. Come dashing out the bathroom with just my boxer shorts he brings me to my room and little Trip is stuck next to my radiator lol.
Crazy little guy, I think he wants to move in.
As I took him back down stairs he shat down my side and leg some got on my arm... Really getting to know this little fella lol

Just shouting out as an unpopular voice of reason- You mean well, it won't end well.
He's adorable, but needs special care. Google shore or bird rescue/rehabilitation. Best Wishes

Why won't it end well? I think he's doing okay, not long till he will fly and he's got somewhere safe to grow. Nothing has eaten him yet he's got great chances. He knows his way around and how to get in/out of the garden too.
Dont want to take him away from the only place he knows, his parents might still be around they could be feeding him though I've not saw that I have seen seagulls protecting him from cats and other seagulls.

Because it's a wild animal, and it belongs not in your home and yard like a pet. You could be harming more than helping- this is a crucial time that it needs to become independent. This entails not being fed, carried around, and all around domesticating a bird who recently left the nest and is learning how to do things on his own.
Not to mention, pretty sure he's big enough he should be flying already. He may have something wrong with him, which relates to why he showed up in the backyard. Also why other gulls are swooping on him. Why it can't walk properly.
Shouldn't have to spell this out. I know the pull baby wildlife can have, I'm sorry that you made a friend and its being threatened. Let professionals take him in and ensure his survival.. if you love something, set it free (free, free, set it free).

You're awesome! Good to see it's coming back every night. I don't get why it shouldn't end well, too. I have taken care of an injured hooded crow once, didn't want to eat nor to be touched, still it recovered and flew away in a few days. Sometimes they just need some shelter.

It looks too young (one month, more or less) to already be independent. Some gulls stay with their parents up to 6 months (more often it's 3), even if they learn how to fly when they're 5-6 weeks old. Unfortunately, often animal shelters don't help invasive species such as gulls and pigeons. At least not here. In the wild many chicks die, that's the way it is, but I see no harm in trying to help a bird that might be doomed if left "in the wild" (they're urban birds after all).

It hasn't eaten anything I tried to give it, he lives outside I just watch him really.. I'll stop picking him up though good call. He can walk fine on flat surfaces but he likes to climb on everything and fall over all the time. He is still healthy and not visably injured, he's very independent too.
I should have mentioned my cousin left the back door open and Trip just ran inside and up the stairs ha.
My only real concern is if he just not ready to fly yet or something is wrong and he can't fly but I've no idea how old he is and at what point he should be able to fly.
The rspca won't do anything unless it's injured and it is considered like a invasive species or a pest I'm pretty sure.

My country has multiple 'shore bird' sanctuary and rehabilitation centers along all coasts, but I'm in the US and OP is in UK. I did volunteer at one of these facilities and this happens ALL. THE. TIME. People think wild animals, usually baby ones, need our help. They intervene, and before you know it the animal needs to either be euthanized (happened with baby coyotes someone brought in when they got too big and aggressive) or they become dependent on humans for their lifespan. Even better is when people feed wild animals 'in need of help' food that is toxic, sometimes resulting in euthanasia due to the expense of surgery. That's not how it's supposed to be..
It's one thing to aid through shelter, another to domesticate. I was sitting outside and a sparrow flew full force into my porch window. Completely knocked itself out. I watched over it, kept the crows away, but didn't touch it, give it sugar water or put it in a shoebox. Doing such, while it appears to be merciful to us, is actually incredibly stressful for an already stressed animal. Can't tell you how many times we lost baby animals to shock. After 20 mins of it panting on its side, it sat up and flew away. Everyone wins.
A wild animal means it is not accustomed to being within close proximity to humans. Doesn't matter that seagulls tend to live near people and their garbage, a seagull doesn't want to be picked up and no, sorry, it's not getting used to being carried around. Btw, how did it get inside the house?
As mentioned, I'm sorry to be that unpopular voice of reason- if you love nature, leave it be.
Guess we will need to agree to disagree. At the very least, please place a call in to a local rescue, OP.

Didn't see your post til I dropped mine. Not trying to start anything, said my piece. I wholeheartedly wish for the union to be happy and positive. If I can help in any way, feel free to PM me, but I hope you'll at least place a call.
From the pics that baby should be flying already(IMO), but even if a rehab won't take it in, they can ask you questions and determine perhaps how old, if its is in danger, if your handling of it is appropriate, if it has been abandoned, etc etc.
Look at it as a learning experience. I wish you well, OP.

I never said it's right to pick up a chick in the wild or to carry it around. This chick came into the house, it's not kmacmo who picked it up. And being one month (two months at maximum) old, it's not independent, so it's not a guarantee that it can survive on its own, especially when there are male adults around.
Of course it's stressful for it to interact with humans, but I don't see kmacmo trying to pet it or something like that. He only left food for it (at that age it would have been fed by its mother anyway) and let it come to the house at night. Speaking about the food, often birds die because they're fed a single carbs-only food every day for weeks by random people (unless you feed them something that it's straight toxic to that species).
Finally, where I live (Italy) animal shelters often refuse to take care of such birds, or they will accept them and then euthanize them.
I'm not saying this because I love nature and treat the matter in an emotional and irrational way, as I'm graduating in conservation biology, for whatever it's worth. Hope it didn't come off as arguing either.

He's just using the garden as shelter, I don't pet him or anything. The gulls nest on the roofs of the houses and at this time of year you can see quite a few of them walking around on the roofs.
Maybe he managed to get down with no way back up, his nest could be on a nearby roof and his parents might still be checking in on him from time to time. There very urban, they find food like worms and bugs in gardens normally and also eat through garbage.
I've been checking out other sources about when they start to fly, he's not big enough yet and I used the local wildlife center website rspca to talk to a helper they said it is not big enough yet the only thing they recommend is I check to make sure he's leaving the garden and for periods at a time so he's probably feeding also that he's not sitting in a single place for hours on end. If he's active then their advice is to just let him use the garden till he can fly.

Do not feed seagulls alka seltzer or white bread

Organic chips, low-salt nuts and cooked, un-spiced spaghetti are good food options for seagulls. Try to stay away from empty carbs like white bread and sugary cereals. Regular Cheerios also are a good source of vitamins for the birds, as are unshelled and unsalted sunflower seeds.

Seagulls are very clever. They learn, remember and even pass on behaviours, such as stamping their feet in a group to imitate rainfall and trick earthworms to come to the surface. ... Seagulls are attentive and caring parents.

Was not at all serious when I put that up, but when I rewatched this morning I LOLed so hysterically I cried. I think I'm suffering a mental break.

He's doing okay 😁 Fed him 3 or 4 times in past 2 weeks, I have seen his parent fly down into the garden and feed him a couple times.
Just today he came upto me and started pecking my boot lol

He got bigger! Super cute, hope it grows up big and strong- and becomes your guardian seagull.

^This.
I know it's cool, and cute to have that little guy come to you, but you're not doing it any favors by feeding it. It's gonna rely on people for food, and never learn to hunt on its own.

I remember that back when it happened. Think I saw it on Sportscenter like the day after it happened. That poor birdie never even knew what hit it.

I mean the odds on that, right? Being the one bird on earth to be flying squarely between a major league batter and a Randy Johnson missile...right in the line of fire. A fraction of a second later that bird goes on to lead a full and happy life. But nope.
