Lions mane fruit help.
    #26836234 - 07/21/20 02:32 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

This is my first time dealing with lions mane. I put half a quart of wbs spawn into hwfp in grocery bags and tied them tight.

After a couple weeks they didn’t look colonized and one started going green so I tossed it and forgot about the other one.

So a few days ago I went to throw it out and found fruits. Now this has been open air in 8-15% rh with a window ac going 24/7 so I was surprised it grew.

Does it look like it’s still alive? How do you know when to harvest without teeth?

They normally get "shaggy" before they are ready for harvest, I think you should try giving it a lot of humidity and see what happens but if it has already dried out it's probably not going to keep growing normally.  I'm sure it's still alive and might produce a second flush for you.

Cool. Once I realized they were there I fixed the humidity. It’s been a couple days but no changes yet.

Harvest those and wait for the second flush. Keep the humidity right. Once they get dried out. They will never look like they should. I don't care how much humidity you put in there they will never come back.

Those look good enough to eat though, I'd eat 'em :crazy2:

Neglected grows get the best FAE

Definitely eat them. I thought I implied that with the word harvest. But maybe not.

You think they’re not worth leaving on there? They are pretty dried out. I know to little air changes the way they look but I’m not sure if too little humidity would too.

Do you ever rehydrate between flushes?

Not enough humidity will dry them out just like having too much air. Growing mushrooms is a balancing act. Next, we will teach you to juggle!!

I agree with Shrooms, they are not worth leaving and won't re-grow once dried, harvest like suggested

I do Lion's Mane in shoeboxes and get like 4+ flushes out of 'em. Just clip it and wait.

I just pulled the fruits off, only 22g. It’s tough getting the sawdust off. Do you guys do anything to hydrate the sub?

I just sprayed the open holes a little and that’s it. I was surprised how much they smell like cubes.

Once it’s dry what’s a normal dose to take as a supplement or to enhance actives?

If the block is really dry, you could either rehydrate with syringe (inject water) or overnight dunk:

Cool that’s what I was looking for, didn’t know if people dunked blocks like cube subs.

I’m assuming mine has plenty of water left since it barely flushed.

I would dry and save what you got till you have enough to make a tincture - tincture is really the best way to go.  But if you want you can just encapsulate the powder, 500mg - 1g dried is a starting dose.

Cool thanks. I’ll look into tincture once I’ve got a few good blocks running somewhere down the line.

Mine seems to have dried out to half the wet weight, is that normal or was it just real dry to begin with?? I was expecting like 2-4g not 10.

A think you're right - it was probably just that dry to begin with, it takes a fairly large water loss to make them abort like that.

I think about 1/10 wet weight, roughly, same as most - but I'm honestly not one who's ever weighed much so I could be way off

I always figure 10% dry matter for lions mane.
