LaserLife said: Evening all, long time lurker first time poster here!
Always hung around with Lucy more myself but thought I'd give shrooms another go recently and I bloody loved it! Got a few bits enroute for a little test grow, can't wait!
Anyway I digress.
The cosmos decided to have a bit of a laugh at my expense today. Figured I may as well take my government mandated walk at a potential spot highlighted on the UK mushroom map just on the off chance there were some Libs there. Went with no expectations of finding anything, especially on a first outing and planned to be about half an hour....
... So there I was 3 hours later on my hands and knees with all the dog walkers staring at me like I had gone mad when I came across these! A huge patch of, what I believe to be, tiny libs that I had walked past multiple times! Picked a few for science and verification and left the others to grow, hopefully!
Did I do it right? Can I take a picture so my Mum can put it on the fridge, or, am I barking up the wrong stipe?

I had same experience-I finally found what I think was a lib but it was teeny tiny, probably half the size of the smallest on your pic. I was looking really close, never would've spotted it just hunting like I normally do-which is maybe why I hadn't found one until now! I've done so much research the past few months I was sure I'd know if I finally found one but the size really threw me and made it hard to identity. Couldn't really see the markings (it was the wet olive/brown colour) but the shape and colour seemed right. It also had the coating on top but I'm not sure how many other types of mushrooms have this same coating (I know one other mushroom I found did but wasn't a lib but all the other mushrooms I've come across did not have this coating) so it was a promising find I would say I'm 90% sure it was a lib. Just wasn't expecting them to be that small as all the photos and vids show much larger ones. I could only find the one but it was the morning of a slight frost a couple days ago and I was too cold to stay much longer and search. Congrats on your finds!

Why do you guys think it’s slowed down now? We haven’t had a massive temperature change and there’s been no frost of any sort where I’m at in the north east.
With all the most and low fog and temperatures been between 5-7 degrees a would of imagines that to be ideal for Liberty caps?

Does anyone have any idea on what this might be? I'm thinking it's just a big Liberty Cap, found in SE England in old fields heavily grazed by deer.

Hi , I’m new to this page . I have tried to research on picking Liberty caps for a while . However I think it would be nice if I could get advice from a professional picker. I would love to know the basics . And have some perfect example photos to follow by . Thankyou in advance !

I'm not a professional picker, although if anyone is hiring I'm interested.
I'd say the best place to start is the Shroomery page for Psilocybe Semilanceata (Liberty Caps)
This picture guide also has plenty of lookalikes to watch out for:

Then of course coming here to this forum to confirm your finds.

thats been me i think on 'slowing down'. and i stand by it insofar as has slowed down for me in Peaks. unlikely to go out "hunting" anymore based on today's haul though may go for an explore or two still

as you can see they were still out, just not in numbers i've got use to, and were mainly dry and creamy white so easy to spot if wanna put in the yards. with nice weather today was perfect exploring conditions. get out there by all means but just think window for bigger hauls has defo passed

Here's a few Pics of this seasons pickings up too now. First Proper year of picking for me, Last year I found a few hundred. This year nearly a couple of thousand.. (Just over a 100g cracker Dry) Before last year only once I found around 50.. I found this spot luckily last year and went out earlier this season and found masses there. Very good spot I found. Just hope I don't Over pick it. Although no matter how much I seem too be picking they seem too be coming back so that has got too be a good sign! We had one had frost the other morning but temps are looking fine until the end of the month so we may see more flushes although I think I already have more than enough for the year.
P.S - The first 2 Pics has all of my Pickings the other 3 pics are close ups from the first pics. 7 Jars worth.

Hi guys. Firstly I would like to thank everyone who helped with the mushroom I'd and your advises. unfortunately no luck for me yet. been searching around potential spots South of London. been exploring pastures and grasslands, looking in dead grass and where cows where. been at nigh, early morning and late afternoon. Nothing.
Could anyone share a potentially good location south from London within an hour drive? I am on furlough now and I am keen to hunt more. This is my first ever season and would be great to find even 1!
cheers guys and happy hunting!

Hey Lord Lasu
I've never been yet myself, but have heard great things about a well-known National Trust deer park in Kent. A quick google ought to reveal it.
They are very much still about and looking healthy, as the day and night temperatures are perfect right now. More rain would help though I think.
Best of luck.

Guys. Hi, I am new to the forums. Have been lurking here a long time, though. Hi everyone. I am down in Cornwall, near Falmouth. Have asked oldfags, but nobody I know can provide any details on where to look. Been going around your classic cow fields.(also have a car) So far other species but not libs. Very frustrating! Please can anyone message me with some pointers. The season draws to the end now, and I have found 0 mushrooms - very sad here. Thank you very much, nice to meet everyone

I've noticed that too - they were everywhere up until about a week ago here (NW Ireland), and then suddenly, over a day or two, they basically disappeared. The weather was extremely windy. I don't think that would trigger an end to the season, but one thing I did notice was that atmospheric pressure and humidity both dropped for a few days during the stormy weather. Conditions are still perfect for them these days, but it's like as if the season is over, here anyway.

Would someone please be able to give me a second opinion on these?

I went my first hunt today up here in Scotland, late I know but the weathers holding.
I was in a hilly area with plenty of moisture, heather and dying grass.
I've got a few I'm absolutely certain are liberty caps and a few I don't think will be but would love some second opinions please.
When collecting them I bagged by picking area so there may be some non libs mixed in with libs.
All photos have just been taken as soon as I got home so if you would like more photos once their dry or better photos of individual shrooms with gills please just let me know.
Thank you so much in advance =)

Hey Dog Squirrel
There are definitely Libs in there, but there are some other species mixed in too. I'm not really qualified, but I would highly recommend posting this as a new thread on the main forum and specifically asking for a 'Trusted Identifier' to I.D. them for you, so that you can remove the non-Libs.

If there's nothing fruiting in the area you picked next season, you overpicked
Everytime I raided fields they were dead the next year and still are 25 years later maybe 12 + fields. Bit gutted as I now have to trapse around further out and instead of fields on moors.

Hi everyone,
Been reading around here for a while and love this community. Have people have any luck around Somerset, Mendips area? Temperatures seem to be right but not too much rain.. Been walking around for days and found just a few lonely ones. Do you reckon is going to get going down south?
Also if someone could confirm these are all libs? I have doubts on a couple. Thanks a lot!

I picked in this location last year as well in this one field and they come back this year. I was late too the table last year and started picking the end of October. This year after finding this field last year I went back early and have had a fair number of big flushes there. I cannot be sure if other people also use this spot. But I am trying too get in the habit of flicking them and also picking the steam rather than pulling. Which I think may be helping. I had a couple of fields I Went too last year and they still are coming back this year. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't either. But I am finding the exact science on how these mushrooms really work too be quiet complicated. I am hoping for a couple more flushes though although it looks like the biggest numbers have been now. Only time will tell next season if they have come back though. xD I am also trying too make sure too leave some here or there if there tiny or dying which should still spread the spores around.

Hey everyone back here again although I'm late this year. Just wanted to ask does anyone have any tips on how to search for good locations ? I am in Hertfordshire and I just can't seem to find any good wild grasslands or sheep fields.
I'm looking on Google maps to try and find places that look good then I go out in the car and try to find places but it's not working and takes alot of time.
Last year I went to Dartmoor and I found libs there but round here I don't know where to look.
Anyone know anywhere in Hertfordshire?
