Hiya mate,
I'm also in N.Wales. My spot is in a mountainous area that is a little under 400m above sea level. I've visited this spot twice, I found nothing the first time and ~70-80 yesterday. My impression is, as you have mentioned, that it's only just getting started now. The libs I found were mostly small and not growing as gregariously as they have in the previous years I've visited this spot. When I think of how warm September, and even the first week or so of October were it makes perfect sense.
Can I ask whereabouts you are?

A general question for those more knowledgeable than me: why is altitude an important consideration when hunting libs? This has always puzzled me.

Hi everyone. I'm completely new to this, 1st time ever looking, so chances are these aren't libs but would really appreciate the knowledge of someone who actually knows.
I found these in what looked to be an old golf course so longish grass area based in the south east.
Hopefully the pics will show up.
Thanks for any help or advice.

Would prefer not to be exact for obvious reasons but Eastern Snowdonia is right.
The reason I include altitude is just because the season (at least where I am) tends to start earlier the higher up you go. I've found semilanceata in July at 1800 feet. It's not the altitude, just that temperatures get lower as altitude increases so the mushrooms come out sooner. As a result I tend to start looking higher up then follow the season down towards sea level.

Do people find that chalky soils do make a difference to lib prevalence?
Interesting question. This is from 4 years ago:

Habitat: These were growing together on very damp grass near woods North East Scotland.
Gills: Colour appears to be a dark brown but some are clear
Stem: Length of stems are quite long and thin 5-6 inches slimy texture mixture of pale and brown in colour.
Cap: Various diameters half inch to 2 inches, hydrofagus dome shaped
Spore print color: Dark Brown and Clear
Could they be Psathyrella?

They look good to me, but you should make your own thread on the 'Mushroom Hunting and Identification' board so a trusted identifier can tell you for certain. I usually wait for mine to dry before committing 100%. Until you're confident, I'd say always get a confirmation from a Trusted Identifier.

Hey guys, Im an experienced picker based in East Sussex. Just back from one of my reliable spots today and whilst there I found these, they are classic lib shape and were found amongst a flush of other libs But were almost bright yellow in colour. Blueing on the stems but yellow caps and gills.
Ive been working this location for years now and am quite familiar with the other resident species there but never seen anything like these.
Came back with a great haul so not fussed about consuming these little guys. Just interested to know if anyone else has experienced this of knows what the reason might be.
Note that these mushrooms are still completely wet, they have not dried to a yellowish colour.

They look good to me.
Season seems to be just getting started now, I think it's because of the mild/ warm, dry weather we've had through Sept and the first part of Oct. Now it's getting colder and wetter...I expect big things over the next 2 - 3 weeks.

Couple of interesting ones I found yesterday.
Sombrero semilanceata

And the gorgeous stem on this bad boy on the right (regular one included for scale).

I had a nice couple of days in Wales recently, on the first day I came across something I'd only dreamed about, a magic mountain where there were liberty caps in every field I checked and all along the peak, with one field being the most fruitful.
Here's a few pics as the day progressed... see if you can spot the lil lib faery ring.
