Ah that's interesting. So is it fairly safe to eat ones like that then, does our stomach acid just kill off all the bugs etc?
I picked out all the maggots that had hatched. Some were very small and smushed into the gills. Some of the gills were a bit rotten too. I was nauseous from eating the mushrooms, and once I started to trip I wanted to vomit the contents of my stomach. I fought to keep it all down, though.

That's awesome, you have a much easier time of it, it seems, than I do in Derbyshire (right now). I'm doing ok, it just takes a little more effort.

Finally found more than 3 in my usual field. I've been visiting this field for several years and this seems a really odd year. Usually, they are towards the bottom of the field, but these were at the very top of the hill (perhaps it's not cold enough yet?). Never found any here before.
Either way, all I found:

Not too sure about a few of the brown ones in the top right of this image?
Any suggestions? Any look wrong? I've not fully investigated them properly yet, I've been picking for years so I'll have a good look through later.
FYI found in Macclesfield, Cheshire, at the edge of Peak District.
Thanks!

Thanks digimite - yeah, I’m very lucky I stumbled on a great spot which I think I have all to myself. Here’s tonight’s pickings. Just over an hours worth. Great conditions due to a bit of sun light this afternoon. Happy hunting all 🍄

Yeah those 3 brown ones aren’t lib. I think there’s a few other brown dark stem ones in the centre of your first pic that aren’t libs either and on the far left of first pic pointing down isn’t a lib either

Hi everyone - this is my first post on the forum - so hi! :-)
I've been out again today and managed to spot a few different types. Could anybody help me out with an ID?
They were found in a grassy path, on a slope next to a tree in small batches. Some were also growing on some moss.
Really struggling to figure out how to share pictures so you might not see any images - only code! 😆😆😆

Thanks Skidog - I suppose I'd better just keep searching then! :-)
Glad I checked on here now. Potentially saved myself some stomach ache 🙂
Any idea what they might be?

I’m no expert at all so it’s just a guess but from what I’ve read on here the smaller ones might be mycena species. Nothing you want to eat! Happy hunting

Perfect day today. They're finally out in numbers (N. Wales 600ft+ above sea level). Met a really nice couple who were out for the same reasons and had a nice chat about different types of trip. Got 130g wet, some proper Gandalfs among them. They're flushing much later than in previous years, so if anyone is lower down and in despair, hold tight. Moonrise was beautiful.

Hello everyone, I went in a field in Scotland and probably found some liberty caps.

I am not that sure about these though. Could someone ID? Also some of them have really dark gills, perhaps rotten, and kind of broken cap. Is it safe to eat them?

Hi anyone around the new forest finding decent amounts yet, been out a few times the last couple of weeks but only found 10g wet so far (but sill a nice buzz) and they seem to be very spaced out (no pun intended). I'm thinking it has been a bit warm still as tonight is the first night its dropped below 10. looks like a lot of rain over the next week so hopefully that will get them fruiting. Happy hunting.

Lordsion most of those look like libs apart from the ones on the small separate sheet of paper and the 4 top right on the last pic, I'm no expert though so wait for an official id. think you know which ones arn't libs as you've already separated them, Enjoy.

Looking good Lauraq. Please wait for a second opinion though. I searched for about 3-4 years for my first finds. It’s worth the effort

Hi mushl- welcome to the shroomery.
Cow dung is not important. Ive only ever had Great luck in sheep fields. Some people say they don’t particularly like cow fields due to the way the hooves chew up the pasture. You want a reasonably well grazed pasture, not a mud pit. They will grow in fields grazed by cows however. You also want reasonably short grass. You’re not going to find many in a foot of grass
I don’t think elevation is too important it’s more about temperature. 10-15 during the day and 5-10 at night is said to be ideal. Accordingly they might fruit sooner on higher ground. Mountainsides Grazed by sheep however generally have good habitat for libs and it’s also good for a bit of privacy.
You were probably unlucky today but unfortunately you need to put in the hours, miles and as per post above sometimes years. It worth it though and worst case you have a nice walk.
I also prefer picking late afternoon especially after some sun. They dry out and turn whiter and are much easier to spot. At 7am they’ll be brown and blend in with the ground and be harder to spot.
Happy hunting

Hello everyone. This is my 4th year or so looking to absolutely no avail in the Chilterns area. However, happily, journeyed up north and on my very first walk found the following without much trouble ... hopefully I have finally got at least some here? Some dowsn the bottom right i am lest sure about because the mantle (if that's what its called) seems a little less ragged, however it maybe because these shrooms are younger ... let me know any thoughts :-)
