This is actually an interesting question - someone was asking the same thing last year.
Smaller fruits contain a higher concentration of alkaloids as a proportion of their weight than larger ones - but larger fruits will, in general, contain more in total.

As an aside, this is why it is a very good idea to homogenise any mushrooms consumed (either by liquid extraction, powdering, etc) rather than simply counting number of fruits.
To give you an example; 1g of tiny mushrooms might contain as much active compounds as 2g of larger, more mature, specimens - simply because of the higher concentration as a proportion of their weight - conversely 1 large fruit might contain twice as much *overall* than a smaller specimen.

Hello! Just found my first liberties cap in the wild after going on a 3 hour search with a few friends. Absolutely ecstatic to try them as I haven’t tripped in 3 months, and I’m still new to mushrooms but familiar with acid. Felt so surreal finding them today after weeks of hopeful searching in August.
Still have a few sitting on a different pile which we aren’t entirely sure about yet, but these we are pretty positive about

nice finds 
i got fair few more today - prob 400-500 between 2 of us
not out in force but prob function of high temps/low rain past week and maybe number of fellow pickers been spotting out in the fields! judging by number of times they were ducking down looks like most were doing OK too
suppose it'll be like this until get a good downpour with them mainly popping up in spots with the most optimal conditions. i think i'd recommend stretching your legs and trying to expand your spots. they're getting dried out quick and therefore easier to spot as you march at slightly higher pace - you'll miss a few but might also expand your hunting grounds significantly

Went out for my first hunt of the season found around 60 small ones half which were pretty dried up. Is there any point in picking these or not worth the trouble? Sorry for the awful pictures. Also any good links for a dehydrator would be greatly appreciated! Much love  http://

Absolutely pick them, as long as they are not rotting it’s all good, sure you would dry them if you were going to store them.. they’ll still knock the socks off you.

Hey, some amazing finds already this year.
I plan to go Wales next weekend for camping and hunting - not been to wales in a few years, I'm not asking for fields just merely areas or names of places where i might be lucky (dont mind a trek.) Here in london it's, well, none existent at the moment. Any help would be enormously appreciated.

A PC fan connected to a 12V adapter, inserted into the top of a shoe box with holes in the side.
Or even ghetto style like in the pic, and on top of a radiator will get them 95% dry.
desiccant in a sealed jar after that will get them cracker dry which is what you want. Mybe in paper sleeves to keep them off the silica gel.
Should store for 1+ years.
I think someone even just stored them in a little herb jar you get from the supermarket and they were still potent enough after 5 years.

Several hundred. Fields are popping probably going to end up with two or three jars. 😀

Small handfull today in another spot, mostly small dry pins with long stems, which were easy to overlook.
Couple of llamas in this field, mybe best not to get too close. Though it seems they are friendly and curious creatures.

Congrats to everyone on their finds. Been keeping an eye on the thread & am thoroughly envious of the hauls.
Have been searching around my area for three weeks, on and off, with no success. Very new to mushroom hunting. We've had no rain here for the entirety of September it feels like. Does No Rain mean No Mushroom? We've been checking spots that seem like they would have potential - golf courses, fallow fields, cow pastures - but we can't get a bite.
Would be encouraged if anyone from the Midlands can report success.
Also, we have been using magicmushroommap.org to narrow things down while hunting - has anyone used this site before? Is it reputable?

Generally speaking Liberty Caps start to appear after the first rains of september, and disappear at the first hard frost of winter. If it has been very dry in your area i'd say that's probably why you've had no luck. Has there been other mushrooms around? In my experience liberty caps show up a bit later in the year than others like mycena

We've come across some other mushrooms here & there. Found some ink caps. Bizarrely, the lawn outside a local care home was absolutely flourishing with five or six different strains before it was mowed down this week, but that's been a total anomaly. It wasn't hosting libs & we didn't try to identify what was there.
There's a little bit of life in a cow pasture which we're hoping might produce later down the line. We've seen a couple of large things that we might describe as being like huge button mushrooms, as well as some small mushrooms with a brownish look and beefy green stems/gills. We have no idea what those are & assume they're dangerous.
What sort of life can we expect to find around libs? We've been told to look out for sedge grass, but grass kind of just looks like grass to us. Also, are we better off looking in shaded areas or are libs fine with full exposure to sunlight?

I'm guessing the lack of response from the Welsh people means Snowdonia must be laced with the magical fungi.
Anyone foraged for mushrooms In snowdonia?? any advice would be appreciated!!!

This kind of moss is extremely common around Libs, they also prefer acidic soil

Found these today in a new field a new spot for me fields but the sheep have been moved out last year there were loads of sheep in it this year none Had a check only had an hour and as near sunset think these are all libs or mostly but small so thinking that this field in particular will be more plentiful the colder it gets have the spot I found last year which was abundent but trying to leave it till later on October time also can anyone tell me what the big white shrooms are pictured also altitude was about 220m

Looks like you've got some libs, though the bigger capped ones don't look quite right, no gelatinous pellicle and the gills look too light...
The big white mushrooms in the second to last pic could be Calvatia gigantea (giant puffballs), cows like to play football with them when they get big. Or mybe new shaggy inkcaps cos they like to group together. Not too sure.  Best to post a new thread in the id section for a TI.
