Hello all, lovely ride today but am now exhausted... liberty cap id please

Habitat: Wood - grassy sheep fields

Gills: most of the gills are a dark brownish colour although some of the specemins which i'm not confident about have lighter gills which could almost be called cream or grey.

Stem: Whitish, pretty fragile

Cap: golden, some conical some almost round? between 0.5 and 1.5cm in first image and up to 2cm in second

Spore print: not yet attempted

Bruising: stem gets darker when bruised

Location: South West UK

very exiting

I see some Liberty caps in there!

This has gotten me excited as I live in South West.

I'm surprised as the weather has been warm.

I think we are on to a good season after some good rain and drop in temperature

Looks like mostly libs in the first pic, maybe a couple of questionable in the bottom row.

Second pic looks like protostropharia semiglobata to me.

Get on this one...I was picking libs in a field that was truly popping off and found a small patch of what appear to be an albino / blonde gilled liberty caps? They were literally growing together on their own patch in the same field as literally nations of true libs. Anyone seen this before? Are they sterile / sporeless for some reason? Literally all the ones in the third pic have blonde gills. First and second pics show them side by side with normal libs in wet / dry state. They look like libs to me. Exactly the same texture...same smell. And I'm sure a touch of blueing? Tempted to brew them up and see what happens....unless someone identifies them as dangerous?

Some from yesterday - I'd say about 100 per sheet drying and two sheets so circa 200 in half an hour.

Some pretty distinct bluing too - especially at the base of the stipes.

I'd say they are sterile liberty caps

Here are some that I picked last year. Check if they have the gelatinous pellicle (see second image) if so I'd be certain.
This can be easier to do when the mushroom is wet, so if they have dried just dip them in water to hydrate the cap.

For what it is worth the spores themselves contain no psychoactive chemicals - so one would presume that they are just as potent as regular caps.

Nice one, thanks for confirming that. I wonder why they turned out sterile with so many fertile bredren all around?
Might have to try and brew up that batch and see how potent they are...

Is anyone aware of libs growing better under certain types of trees? I ask as I’ve seen it as part of the info required for IDing posts and thought maybe it’s a good time to brush on my tree knowledge too!

Liberty caps don’t grow under trees man, open grassland/fields.
