Mixed results with MSS to Grain Bag innoc

I've gotten the PF tek down pretty well at this point and want to graduate to other higher yielding teks. I got two of these (https://www.midwestgrowkits.com/Premium-5-Grain-Spawn-Bags) 5-grain spawn bags from Midwest Grow Kits and inoculated them with 5cc each of Penis Envy MS solution from syringe through the ports on the bag. I shook the syringes up real good before injecting, and I covered the ports afterward with gorilla tape just as a precaution against contams.
I've gotten polar opposite results so far after about a month post-inoculation. One has healthy-looking mycelium, and the other has nothing. I know I should really be using LC but I didn't have the supplies at the time and was a little impatient, admittedly. Is this just par for the course when using MSS direct to grain? Or did I do something wrong? Any chance the bag on the right comes around eventually or should I just toss it? Or re-inoculate with a syringe of the same strain MSS?

The only thing you really should have done is use agar to get clean cultures from spores. Spores to grain is too damn risky especially 5cc into a bag. You might get lucky but it would be exactly that, luck. As far as the bag that never did anything, I think it's trash. Let's see what others suggest.

Unfortunately that what happens with injecting MSS straight into grain bags. Its literally a gamble. Most people I know that tried it had such mixed results that I believe its almost useless except for hobbyists that are happy with even the smallest and inconsistent yields.
As El Chupacabra mentioned, your better off investing time into agar work. You will be happier and feel more accomplished in the end.

Spores to grain really is a crap shoot. Ive shot up maybe 12 quart jars with spores before and only 3 jars germinated, and one of those went south. The same syringes worked 100% on every BRF jar I took them to, though.
Not sure why so many failed to germinate

Got it - shame on me! Thanks for the info.
Why is it that spores have a harder time "germinating" on grain vs PF / agar?
