DOUBLE YUP!!!

These were my winter bikes for a good number of years, and both were fucking badass. Especially the VFR with the V4 engine...

I'd sell you my 97 cbr 600 for 1000 bucks if you were near me. Visually its a little rough. It tipped over after parking in some gravel once and busted up its farrings, which are replaceable. But its a strong strong runner. Needs new tires.
Got like 26,000 miles on it no leaks.

Everyone says get a bigger bike. Thats true, but preferences are subject to change. Like mine, i started out on 180cc, then went to 400cc then 650cc, kept going up until i reached 1100cc and now 12 motorcycles later im back down to under 200cc enduros, and i dont think ill ever bother with anything bigger again. I found my sweet spot for my current state of being. May change again in future

600 is really the ideal size, enough power for thrills but small enough to handle amazing. I mean they handle better than smaller bikes from what I can tell. I can turn sharper and faster on a 600cc then I can on something smaller.

Yeah but you cant rip up and down any bush filled wooded hills and ditches and hop over any curb on any street,do 65+ mph on the highway and then rip right off into the untracked woods like you can with my 230lb 185cc enduro

True. Almost no one stays on something like a 250 though. I've never understood the point of starting out on one, unless it's a kid, or a dirtbike.
Fuck it, get a 900 and wheelie up and down the block. You're going to wreck anyway.

I want to join an enduro cult. Theres a fanaticism with lightweight street legal enduros, more popular ive seen in places like colombia and indonesia Its all about conquering every possible plane of terrain, strive for no limits on 2 wheels. It has to be light enough that you can pick it up out or drag it uphill out of stuck situations, and high up exhaust for crossing water

I live in a city, the police would be hunting me down if I just decided to cut through some wooded terrain.

Go as new as you can afford, less maintenance issues.
Engine size is not as big of a deal as some would lead you to believe, with some exceptions. The smaller Honda Rebel types will feel small for most riders but they do hold their value when you get them used.
A great easy ride that can be had for cheap is a Honda Shadow.
If you have a over 3k to spend, a modern Triumph Bonneville is another great option.
If you want more of a dual sport, a Honda XR is another nice choice.
If you're leaning towards a supermoto, the Suzuki DRZ 400 is tough to beat, although you'll be more apt to get yourself a ticket on one of them, just too much fun!

Thanks for all the input fellas.
I WAS set to start off on an older model 600cc that i was gonna buy off my cousin but he let a friend borrow it, who let a friend borrow it, who led the cops on a high speed chase...and ya. That bike isnt an option no more :/

Its tough to find 600s in my price range and area right now though, people are buying up bikes like crazy..
Another reason why i was thinking 300 until early spring, sell and buy a 6.
From what ive seen, i should be able to get all my money back, maybe even profit if i can find a good enough deal.

This. My current bike was the first new vehicle I've ever owned.
Cons: You have to get it serviced a bunch of times in the first 10k or so miles.
Other than that, it's great not constantly worrying about breaking down.

Depends on model year, a 2020 600 will smoke a 2010 liter bike (with a few exceptions). I started on a 600 Honda Shadow, think it make 40hp. 2020 Yamaha YZF-R6 makes 117HP and weighs 450 odd lbs...I know its a racing model just wanted show the difference between yesteryear and today. Most 600cc today make 100 hp and are not good beginner bikes imo. But you do you.
