Ronco Food Dehydrator - HELP?
    #2683097 - 05/15/04 04:58 PM (19 years, 11 months ago)

I just stumbled across a Ronco Food Dehydrator at a thrift shop and bought it for 2 bucks. It didn't come with any instructions, so I was wondering if anyone here has used one and if they can tell me how to use it.

It has 4 settings for the opening on the top lid numbered 1-4. There are 7 drying racks with it.

I plugged it in and it heats up, so I figure it works.

Anyone know about these??

Any help would be appreciated.

first off, a couple people here said a foor dehydrator was the way to go. I was out looking for desicant but couldn't find it and I went into a thrift store and saw a dehydrator for 2 bucks (as opposed to 50 new) and thought "why not". The heat from the coil at the bottom of the dehydrator seems very slight, and I'm currently testing it on some apples before I use it on shrooms..

Ok but yes heat is a bad thinf best results are from fan dry to a dessicant chamber. Yours will still work but watch that heat as it destroys

alot of people do use them and they work well, but you should disconnect the heating element and just let the fan run. This will do a very good job, there is no need for the heat.It may seem slight but built up over a long period,it will increase(now im not saying real hot but why take the chance of destroying any of the goodies when all you have to do is disconnect a wire)

there is no fan in this particular dehydrator - what if I stack all the layes up and dry them on the top layer away from the heating element?

do this, run the machine for 6 hours on the lowest setting and then quickly open it up and put your thermometer in and close for 10 minutes or so,and see what the temp is.If its over 100F I wouldnt take any chances.

heat rises. convection. psilocybin will still break down. if put on the lowest setting it will work but still you will lose potency.

Just lay them out on paper/cardboard in a room and leave them for 2 days (aslong as you don't live in the tropics) Even if you can still bend them without snapping they will still be as dry as they need to be. Then freeze them.

Always worked for my pet tarantula, and he's never had any problems.

Any water content left in a shroom when frozen will destroy cell walls and be more harmfull then heat.

Go to home depot or hardware store pick up damprid for 3 bucks
