Identification Request - Amanita Frostiana?
    #26831512 - 07/18/20 09:05 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

First post, let's see how this goes.

Found a beautiful specimen that looks like Amanita Frostiana to me, but I'd like some more educated people to take a look and possibly ID this.

Habitat:
Found this one around eastern Pennsylvania (Pennypack Trail), next to a creek that runs along the trail.

Gills:
The gills are white and I believe they are free.

Stem:
White stem, although with a very faint yellow tint. It's very smooth. This was the only mushroom with remnants of a ring. I'm guessing that the ring is fragile and falls off with age.

Cap:
This orange one looks bell-shaped, but the neighboring yellow mushrooms ranged from bell-shaped, to convex, and even to sunken. The cap shape appears to change depending on age, where the younger mushrooms were bell-shaped, and older ones looked flat or sunken. This orange mushroom was the only one in the area and I'm thinking that the yellow ones are related.

Spore print:
The spore print of the yellow mushrooms were white, I have the orange one printing as of this post.

Bruising:
Doesn't appear to have bruised

Other Information:
The mushroom doesn't have any particularly strong or unusual scent. The only trees that I know for certain were in the area are American Beech. Found near a creek with many other mushrooms of a similar-looking yellow variant (images included). The cap of this orange one was not sticky, but the yellow variants were. Most of the mushroom cap fell from the stem before making the journey home so, my apologies.

#1 is either Amanita frostiana or Amanita flavoconia, #2 looks like Amanita russuloides but im not so sure on that one
