Constant Fanning????
    #2682970 - 05/15/04 04:00 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I have 7 cakes sitting in a styrofoam cooler with NO perlite at the bottom. The humidity is about 78% and the temp is sitting around 66 degrees. How do I bump up the temp a little and bump down the humidity? I have a fan blowing at the cooler with the lid cracked a bit, will this do any damage to the cakes seeing how its a constant flow of outside air?

Bump *down* the humidity?
Brutha, your rH should be between 95-100% for cakes. Get rid of the fan and get one of these.

Your temps should be around 75 f. Turn down the AC.

You need high humidity(95-100%) and higher temp(74-78 deg) get a misting bottle and mist the sides of the cooler and turn up the thermostat of the house. If its still not stabalizing, try wrapping a blanket around it. You don't need constant air flow only to get rid of the CO2 building up. Fan 6-10 times a day. You also need to read FAQs and be prepared more.

I've had the cakes in the terr. for 9 days now and the mycellum is growing off the cakes. Still no pins but 1. Introduced light and have fanned all the while. Shouldn't I bump the humidity down at this point?

No.

Casings generally benefit from lowered temp / humidity, but even then, 85-90% rH is optimal. For cakes, humidity should be 95-100% throughout the fruiting process.
