Grain masters in fridge - gas exchange?

Nothing came up with the search function...
For storing grain masters in the fridge would it help to cut off gas exchange once they are fully colonized? (i.e. using an unmodified lid and once colonized, tightening the lid fully) My theory is that this will stall colonization preventing them from over colonizing or pinning in vitro, thus allowing them to last longer. But I'm also thinking it might not make a difference since they are refrigerated.
The other thing I'm wondering is, needless of whether or not cutting off gas exchange after colonization will have any benefits, is there any harm in doing so?
Thanks! -Rhizo

I would just place the master jar inside a ziploc bag and store it in the fridge.
Do not use an unmodified lid for colonizing grain jars. Use a filter to prevent contamination growth and allow GE.
There is no point in cutting off gas exchange when placing in the fridge, as it is already slowing the growth, which reduces the GE.

The cold will stop colonization, drying the grain out eventually might be a problem though.

With fridge you mean on +3°C or on -18°C? How long can last those grains then?

This is a great question and I'm very curious, I have T1, T2, and T3 plates in the fridge in ziplocs sealed tight and I am curious if I can transfer to grains eventually from any of them despite slowing down the colonization.

Idk, people have kept colonized jars at room temp for super long times and been fine. As long as it doesn’t get near freezing I think it’ll be ok.
Once you take the plates or jar out and it warms up they’ll grow normally again.

I like to use master jars when they're ready. The fridge can hurt performance.
