Eh, I was just made a TC last night so I don't feel like my opinion carries
any more weight than the other excellent cultivators who posted before me.

If you have enough inoculant and time you could make more grain but also try to
save the grain you've already prepped and run both to see the results of using
fermented grain with your own eyes.

I know from experience that it isn't ideal, but I've certainly used funky smelling
wbs before with ok, but not great, results.

@camera93 - why don't you give no soak a ago. 2:1 grain to water in the jars together and straight in the PC.
I've not tried this but I have been reading about it recently and I'm gonna chuck one in with my next pc cycle on sunday.
It would free up a lot of time after work.

oh no, I did appreciate everyone's feedback tagged or not, and I follow enough of you guys around here to follow advise even without a tag. I just didn't want it to come off like I was about to argue with mushboy tbh after he said he wouldn't use it and I went lookin for quotables

no all the feedback provided makes sense and goes with what I have read on here about prolonged soak times and endospore counts going through the roof after a certain amount of time. I'm just irritated with myself for wasting the time already as I try to squeeze a lot into a small amount of available time

quitting this job would really free up some cult time for sure lol

@Dal i actually did just try this recently with pint jars, they came out okay, noced with LC that was pry no good tho
tossed them the other day, for sure worth another shot

I’d dry it a little longer and still pc it if you’ve got extra jars. Then knock it up with something not super important at first. The only time I had horrible problems from over soaking was this stupid southwestern blend with some sort of grain, I think also rye, that would just explode with bacteria every time.

The no soak is the shit I’ve been messing with it lately. I started at 2 parts grain 1 part water but it comes out slightly too wet for me so I cut the water by like 10%.

Ooooh goody I think I finally found a bulk grain place (you'd be surprised at how hard this has been). They have rye and wheat, I order without the husk yes?

If you order whole wheat it will most likely have been debranned already which removes the husk

They have it listed as "entero" or "perlado." Perlado is described as de-husked and "polished" whatever that means in the context of grains. I think perlado is what I want, now lets see how much they'll charge me to ship it from the south.

Got inspired to look for wheat after reading your thread Nate

Just checked the place where I chuck my contaminated jars and to my surprise I found a big ol stash of mushrooms. Most of them have already dropped spores and some were beginning to rot but I got as many as I could that looked good.

They’re dirty af though, how do you guys clean outside fruits? Wash em under the sink before you dehydrate them or just stick em in there and hope you tossed all the ones full of beetles?

Some people say to soak them in a peroxide or bleach solution but idk.

Was this just partially colonized grain dumped on the ground?

Nah it was fully colonized with li but it still turned out bacterial. I just used a little hand till and broke up some soil mixed in a couple jars of spawn with the loose soil, tamped it down, and covered it with old leaves. Two weeks later and there’s a little more than a pound harvested wet, I probably left another pound out there cause there were a bunch of centipedes under the bigger ones.

Yet another reason to always make tea. Its mandatory for outdoor fruits imo.

Think I’m just gonna pick out all the leaves and shit and brush em off once they’re dry. Need to get one of those metal tea strainer things that just sit in your cup like a teabag.

Finally got my first fruits, super excited even if they were outside  :yess:
