The focus on breaths during a trip
    #26826005 - 07/15/20 09:08 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

I realize that for me at least, breathing cease to become an automatic function at the onset of the trip. Like the conscious mind is being forced to take over the breathing function. And sometimes, things felt so good I didn't even bother to draw that air in. In fact, it felt like things intensify in between breaths. Seems like oxygen deprivation has an effect here. I'm not sure what, or if its a good or bad effect.

Anyway, I tried doing controlled breathing, taking deep breaths, hold it in for a bit and release slowly from about 15 mins into drinking my tea (1.5g sub), lying down. Within 10 mins, I could feel the effect kicking in slowly. I continued the controlled breathing for another minute or two and off I went. The whole take off was very smooth and fast. Skipped the whole forced-to-take-over-breathing phase.

Anyone tried this before?

I think that's just the anxiety kicking in. I haven't had that sensation for a while now.

Breathing like that does keep your brain at a highly oxygenated which keeps those pesky anxiety chemicals at bay. People sing which does the same. There's plenty of techniques that work.

Controlled breathing is probably a good way to deal with the anxiety of coming up on mushrooms, just be sure not to overdo it. If you overdo it, you can easily end up worse than not doing it. Just relax, and take it easy.

control is a fallacy but intentionally following your breathing is always good, not just for tripping.

i mean it is way better for tripping if you do it regularly because then it is not about control at all - it is who you are.

it's always best if you can fall back on your natural habits.

Weirdly enough, I don't have strange breathing sensations until the tail end of the peak. Then it feels like my throat is a little tight. But then again, I have not taken larger doses than 3.5g so I don't know what that has in store for me.

My breathing only tends to become problematic, like I can’t get enough air, when I’ve been in the peak for a while, nd then the come up starts again! They’re, “reality tearing apart” trips!

2 gms golden teacher at the art gallery with social distancing and masks on full time mostly just bugged my hips and lower back - because of weather change (rainy here). breathing worked ok.

squatting stretched out those muscles nicely but I think it looked weird to gallery goers.

I get the sort of forgetting to breathe thing going on too, or at least I perceive this happening. Doing deep breathes for a bit does help and most of the time it seems not to bother me after the initial moments.

I was convinced that breathing is a skill that I need to work on since 15 years ago. Somehow, I have failed to fix it. Once i take my mind off it, I'll fall back into short breaths.

For me, it isn't tight throat. Just my lungs being lazy and refusing to work without instructions.

I wonder if other people experience this as well. It's like our brain wanted oxygen deprivation so that it will be hit again.

I am curious if this is a common experience. Or just for newbies. That's why I posted it here. Wonder how many people share our experience?

When tripping, I breath like I’m smoking a pipe of tobacco.  Like I’m a scuba diver taking drags off his rebreather.  It’s a fascinating element to the trip.

Blissed out, laying on my back relaxed while staring up at the sky and inhaling & exhaling this mysterious substance that keeps us all alive 1 breath at a time - predict, reflect, perceive.

Truly trippy.

I believe this is true. When I'm trying to go deep and may have not taken a high enough dose I can start to see visions by holding my breath. Then when I breath I transition back to normal reality. I think is the total silence of not breathing vs any lack of oxygen or CO2 buildup.

This is taking very long slow breaths and just stopping for several seconds between breaths. Not holding my breath till I'm in distress.

I find each breath sensitively & inextricably linked to the experiences of body & mind - and how they present in each instant of every moment.
How about you?

Only at the onset of a trip. Once it is well underway, breath is out of focus again.

The last few posts have given me inspiration for some concept art.... smoking, breathing air, tripping, the body, scuba diving, meat suits, etc etc....I’ll try and draw something that wraps it all into one thing to convey the experience & feeling when I get a chance.

it's a skill for babies,
it does not require "deep" breaths,
just continuity and connection for your mind
